Oscar Isaac and Carey Mulligan in Talks for Potential Second Season of Netflix’s Beef

Jake Gyllenhaal and Anne Hathaway are no longer in the running.

Oscar Isaac (Star Wars: Episode 7 – The Force Awakens, Dune) and Carey Mulligan (Maestro, Saltburn) are reportedly in talks to star in a potential Beef Season 2.

According to Deadline’s sources, the two powerhouse leads are in negotiations to join the Netflix show’s second season. The streamer has yet to officially greenlight a new season, however, so it’s best not to get too excited too quickly.

Image credit Getty Images.Sources clarify that, while Season 2 is still planned to follow a story centered around two feuding couples, it will no longer include Jake Gyllenhaal and Anne Hathaway. The two stars were rumored to join the show’s roster earlier this year, but Deadline says “that ultimately did not come to fruition.” Isaac and Mulligan will take over those roles should their negotiations proceed accordingly. It’s unclear whether Charles Melton (Riverdale, May December) and Cailee Spaeny (Priscilla, Bad Time at the El Royale), who were previously rumored to play the other couple, are attached.

A lot needs to happen for Beef Season 2 to officially start cooking, but it’s at least poised to tell an interesting story should it get off the ground. The Netflix anthology series’ first season, which starred Steven Yeun and Ali Wong, wowed audiences when it premiered last year, and it even went on to nab multiple awards at The Emmys and Golden Globes.
