Shortly after her casket arrived at Ugu Sport and Leisure Centre in Port Shepstone, KZN, the media was asked to leave on Saturday, 22 June.

uMkhonto Wesizwe (MK) party spokesman Nhlamulo Ndhlela, who escorted the media out, started with the SABC and then escorted the other media personnel. 

A few minutes later, he expelled all the media and claimed it was at the request of the family. 

“The family said they don’t want the media here. Unfortunately, you have to go,” he said.

The funeral was attended by former president Jacob Zuma, former health minister Dr Zweli Mkhize, former ANC secretary-general Ace Magashule, former commissioner of SARS Tom Moyane, former COGTA minister Des Van Rooyen, Jacob Zuma’s wife Bongi Ngema-Zuma, King Zwelithini’s wife Zola Mafu, Jacob Zuma foundation spokesman Mzwanele Manyi, advocate Dali Mpofu, MK party members and many more.

Myeni died on Friday, 14 June, after losing a battle with cancer. 

At the time of her death, she was facing fraud and corruption charges linked to Bosasa, a company known for its government services, particularly to the Department of Correctional Services and African Global Operations.

The charges involved total around R300 000.  

In May, it was disclosed that Myeni was battling cancer, which prevented her from attending her corruption pre-trial hearing as she was undergoing treatment.
