Former Manchester United striker Radamel Falcao’s latest move is one that he has always wanted to make.

The Colombian striker had never played in the top flight of his homeland but has sealed an emotional transfer to Millionarios.

Although he started out with Lanceros Boyaca, he was a mere 13 years old when making his debut for them, in the second tier, in 1999. Two years later, he joined River Plate and made a name for himself in Argentina, forging a reputation as a formidable centre-forward.

Via Porto, Atletico Madrid and Monaco, he ended up at United in 2014, signing in a season-long loan deal.

Watch one of Radamel Falcao’s goals for United, away to Aston Villa.

Falcao was popular with supporters and, in his 29 appearances for Louis van Gaal’s side, he scored four times – against Everton, Aston Villa, Stoke City and Leicester City.

He left at the end of the campaign and joined Premier League rivals Chelsea in another loan switch.

Moves to Galatasaray and Rayo Vallecano followed; he played against the Reds for the latter in a pre-season friendly in 2022, when Amad scored for United in a 1-1 draw at Old Trafford.

El Tigre’s latest transfer, to Millionarios, is something of a dream come true and has now been confirmed on the club’s social media channels.

He will wear the no.9 shirt and admitted: “When I left Colombia, I said I wanted to come back here and play in the country, especially for Millionarios, my favourite club and one that marked my childhood.

“I was close to returning to Colombia before but I never played here and I think that is what I am missing.”

With all eyes on the Copa America at the moment, we asked Radamel for his prediction regarding the outcome in the United States.

He opted for Colombia, naturally, as winners, and Lionel Messi for the top-scorer award.

Best of luck to Falcao as he represents “the team of my heart”.
