Francesco Calvona’s side have already delivered one of the shocks of the tournament by winning their opening clash of the tournament against a much-fancied Beglium side, but a 2-1 defeat by Ukraine in their second match meant they still needed a point from their final match to secure qualification.
A 1-1 draw played with Romania saw both teams qualify for the Round of 16, and means that the Falcons have lost just one of their last six matches now ahead of their trip to Gelsenkirchen on Sunday to take on England.
The winner of Sudnay evening’s tie will play either Switzerland or defending champions Italy in the quarter-final next Saturday.
England have won five of their six previous matches against Slovakia, the only draw between the two coming in Euro 2016 when the two drew 0-0 on the final day of the group stage.
The last time the two sides met was in a 2018 World Cup qualifier at Wembley, in which Eric Dier and Marcus Rashford scored to England come from behind to earn a 2-1 win in September 2
