Barcelona, Paris Saint-Germain make Man City attacker ‘top target’ this summer

Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain are reportedly chasing Manchester City’s Julian Alvarez as a priority signing, despite the World Cup winner being content at the Etihad.

Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain are reportedly interested in Julian Alvarez, both making the Manchester City attacker a priority target this summer.
The 24-year-old is currently away on international duty with Argentina at the Copa America in the United States, where the World Cup winners will be battling for pan-American glory.

Alvarez has started both of his country’s group-stage fixtures so far, scoring in a 2-0 win over Canada and helping his side to a narrow success at the expense of Chile at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey.

Focusing on club football, the world champion enjoyed an increased number of minutes in the Premier League for the Citizens during 2023-24, largely down to the injury issues suffered by Erling Haaland.

Making an impressive total of 31 top-flight starts, Alvarez bagged 11 goals and provided nine goals for teammates as Pep Guardiola’s men sealed a record-breaking fourth straight English crown.

Barcelona, PSG ‘chasing’ Man City’s Alvarez

According to CaughtOffside, Man City will receive some serious interest for star attacker Alvarez during this summer’s transfer window, with clubs hoping to end the player’s two-year stay at the Etihad.

The report claims that Ligue 1 winners PSG and La Liga giants Barcelona are both keen on securing the services of the 24-year-old ahead of the new campaign.

It is understood that Luis Enrique’s side have already held initial talks with the Citizens over a potential deal, as Les Parisiens prepare to plan for life without Real Madrid-bound Kylian Mbappe.

Content with how things are going on the blue side of Manchester, Alvarez will supposedly fall short of pushing for a move away this summer, however the Argentina international could be tempted by guarantees of playing time and a lucrative salary package.

The French champions have also been linked with a summer swoop for Napoli marksman Victor Osimhen, however discussions over a deal for the Nigerian have stalled recently.

Joan Laporta’s ambitions have no legs
Despite their well-reported financial troubles, Barcelona club president Joan Laporta is said to be eyeing up a remarkable pursuit of both Alvarez and Man City colleague Haaland.

Signing the pair would at least cost upwards of £100m, money that the Catalan club do not have to spend at the moment, with major outgoings required at Camp Nou to allow for arrivals.

One player who could be in the departure lounge soon is Robert Lewandowski, with the Poland legend attracting interest from numerous outfits in the Saudi Pro League.

A sale of the 35-year-old to the Middle East would likely be lucrative for Barca, however the striker is not currently keen on a transfer this summer.
