Young Thug YSL Trial On Hold As Its Judge Explores Recusing Himself From The Case

Whew! Roommates, there’s been plenty of twists and turns in Young Thug‘s YSL trial, and the latest involves its judge! Fulton County’s Ural Glanville is reportedly exploring whether he needs to recuse himself from the trial.

According to WSB-TV, Thugger and his co-defendants’ trials are paused for the time being in a development announced on Monday (July 1). Attorneys for Thug, specifically, filed a motion to have the YSL trial judge recuse himself.

What’s Next For YSL Trial Judge?
Thugger’s motion comes about two weeks after Judge Glanville jailed one of Young Thug’s lawyers, Brian Steel. At the time, the judge held Steele in contempt after the lawyer accused him of having an “ex-parte meeting” without his presence. The arrest came after Brian refused to disclose his source.

Now, the pause is due to Steele’s court-filed claims  about the meeting the judge allegedly excluded him from. As for the next steps, the judge is waiting on another judge to review the petition. It’s unclear, per WSB-TV, when that will happen or if another judge is already rewviewing the petition.

There Was Another Recent Setback In Young Thug’s Trial
The YSL trial judge’s decision is yet another setback in Young Thug’s trial. Jury selection had already set a record in the state, taking 10 months to complete. Opening statements began in November.

However, the progress has been dragging. Thug and a few other alleged YSL-affiliated defendants seem no closer to knowing whether they will head home free or behind prison walls this year.

Thugger, legal name Jeffrey Lamar Williams, is charged with conspiracy to violate the RICO act, as prosecutors are arguing that YSL stands for a street gang named Young Slime Life. In addition to the conspiracy charges, he’s charged with possession of drugs and firearms, multiple counts for employment, and participation in a criminal street gang, per Vulture.
