Euro 2024: Boniface spotlights Leverkusen’s unbeaten run to celebrate Florian Wirtz’s Germany goal

Super Eagles striker Victor Boniface celebrated Florian Wirtz’s equalizer for Germany in their extra-time 2-1 loss to Spain in the quarterfinals of the 2024 Euros Championship, Soccernet.ng reports.

After a goaless first half, RB Leipzig star Dani Olmo scored in the 51st minute for Spain to put them in the driving seat of their Euros quarterfinal clash against Germany.

It looked like La Furia Roja would hold on and see off their slim one-goal lead to advance to the semi-final, but a last ditch effort from Germany delayed them.

Die Mannschaft’s late onslaught saw Bayer Leverkusen star Wirtz presented with an opportunity after Joshua Kimmich knocked a cross down in Spain area. Wirtz made no mistake, as he fired the half-volley from close range to take the game to extra time.

Apparently, Wirtz’s goal got Boniface, who is also his club teammate excited, and the Bayer Leverkusen star went to social media to show his excitement.

Boniface hailed Wirtz’s undying spirit, which was also characteristic with Bayer Leverkusen in their 49-game unbeaten run last season. Die Werkself were notorious for scoring very late in games last season, and Wirtz’s goal was reminiscent of that.

Boniface wrote on his social media page, “Neverkusen 90+ as always”

Unfortunately for Wirtz and his Germany side, his goal was not enough, as Mikel Merino scored the winning goal for Spain in the 28 minute of extra time to end Germany’s run at the Euros.
