The proposed move will bring an end to the Dutchmanâs nightmare spell in Manchester, four years after originally joining United from Eredivisie giants Ajax.
Van de Beek, 27, has failed to ever establish himself as a regular for the Red Devils and has played just 62 times for the club across all competitions since signing.
The Netherlands international has spent time on loan at both Everton and Eintracht Frankfurt over the past few seasons, but he now appears to be on the verge of a permanent Old Trafford exit.
Romano claims that United will receive less than ÂŁ1 million for the player, although the deal could see Girona end up paying up to ÂŁ4.5 million if certain performance-related add-ons are met.
Van de Beekâs current contract with United is set to expire next summer, so the Manchester outfit appear to be cashing in on the Dutchman this summer in order to avoid losing him for free.
