A lot has changed since The Devil Wears Prada, the comedy-drama set in the world of fashion magazines, first released back in 2006. These changes look to be at the center of a planned sequel said to be in the works at Disney, which will reportedly feature the return of Meryl Streep as fearsome editor Miranda Priestley.

According to separate reports in Puck and Variety, the sequel will feature a version of Miranda Priestly at the end of her career as she contends with the decline of traditional magazines. Puck reports that Emily Blunt will also reprise her role as Emily Charlton, now a high-powered executive at a luxury group, with original screenwriter Aline Brosh McKenna also set to return.

It’s unclear whether Anne Hathaway, the third member of the original trio, will also take part in the reported sequel. IGN has reached out to Disney for confirmation.

The original movie, which starred Hathaway and Blunt as Miranda Priestley’s embattled assistants at the fictional high-end Runway fashion magazine, was a major hit in its day, amassing more than $325 million worldwide. It was initially released as a novel in 2003, and is said to be based in part on influential US Vogue editor Anna Wintour, with whom author Lauren Weisberger worked as a personal assistant.

The Biggest Movies Coming in 2024Notably, two sequels to the original book have been released over the years: 2013’s Revenge Wears Prada: The Devil Returns and 2018’s When Life Gives you Lululemons. The former features Hathaway’s character, Andy Sachs, as the editor of a new bridal magazine who remains traumatized by her experience working with Miranda.

In the meantime, The Devil Wears Prada is finding new life as a musical, with Vanessa Williams in the role of Miranda Priestly. It’s set to open in London this month.
