Preview: Independiente vs. Barracas Central

Sports Mole previews Wednesday’s Argentine Primera Division clash between Independiente and Barracas Central, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.

Independiente and Barracas Central face off at Estadio Libertadores de America on Tuesday in round seven of the 2024 Argentine Premiera Divison season.

Having both suffered defeats last time out, the teams will be keen to get themselves back on track in next to no time with all three points in this one.

Match preview
Independiente were on the receiving end of a 3-1 defeat against Instituto when the teams clashed at Estadio Presidente Peron on Friday.

Julio Vaccari’s men made a poor start to the game and found themselves two down thanks to Ignacio Russio’s double, but they managed to pull one back through Alex Luna after which Santiago Rodriguez sealed the deal.

As a result, Los Diablos Rojos have dropped down to 20th in the Argentina Primera Division table and are just two points clear of relegation danger.

Next up is the challenge of an opposing outfit who are without a victory in the previous five editions of this fixture across all competitions.

Unbeaten in eight of their last nine home outings, Tuesday’s hosts have proven to be a tough nut to crack in front of their fans.

Barracas Central suffered an agonising 1-0 defeat against Newell’s Old Boys in Friday’s contest at Claudio Fabian Tapia.

Rodolfo de Paoli’s men looked set to come away with a share of the spoils with the match level heading into second-half stoppage time before Ignacio Ramirez struck a late winner.

With four points amassed from six league involvements this term, Los Camioneros sit 25th in the standings and are yet to get going.

Ahead of daunting assignments against Boca Juniors and Talleres Cordoba to come, Tuesday’s visitors will be keen to kickstart their season with a much-needed win here.

Team News
Matias Gimenez has been out of action for Independiente since mid-March, and the forward will not play any part in this one.

The home side will also have to make do with the absence of Santiago Toloza who is, however, drawing increasingly closer to a comeback.

Alex Luna has found the back of the net in consecutive games leading up to this one, making him one to keep an eye on here.

Jhonatan Candia still awaits his first league goal for Barracas Central, but the 29-year-old is expected to lead the line nonetheless.

Alexis Dominguez has missed each of the visitors’ last four matches through injury, making him a huge doubt to play any part in Wednesday’s affair.

Independiente possible starting lineup:
Rey; Perez, Laso, Fedorco, Salle; Mancuello, Marcone, Martinez; Luna, Avalos, Lopez

Barracas Central possible starting lineup:
Moyano; Mater, Goni, Capraro, Insua; Coronel, Herrera; A. Juarez, Iacobellis, D. Juarez; Candia

We say: Independiente 2-0 Barracas Central
The teams could really do with a win here off the back of what has been a poor start to the season. We are backing Independiente to cruise to a routine win at the sound of the final whistle.
