Lately, Hunter x Hunter author Yoshihiro Togashi has been teasing work on new chapters for the series, which has been running in Shonen Jump magazine off and on since 1998. Togashi’s health issues are well documented, so it’s always good to see him working at his own pace, and now the first collected volume of the series in almost two years has a launch date for Japan.
Next up for the collections of Hunter x Hunter is volume 38, which is scheduled to hit shelves in Japan on September 4, 2024.
Volume 37, which includes chapters 381-390, launched in Japan on November 4, 2022. The new volume will likely take it through chapter 400, and according to tweets Togashi has teased progress going up to chapter 416 so far.
Prior to that, Hunter x Hunter volume 36 launched in Japan in October 2018, with VIZ Media’s English release following in August 2019.
Togashi has touched upon his poor health many times, previously announcing plans to increase his staff to help with production of future chapters. Said staff of assistants have most recently been given instructions for the backgrounds in chapters 409-410.
VIZ Media publishes Hunter x Hunter in English and gave this description for the first volume:
Hunter x Hunter Synopsis
“Gon might be a country boy, but he has high aspirations. Despite his Aunt Mito’s protests, Gon decides to follow in his father’s footsteps and become a legendary Hunter. The Hunter hopefuls begin their journey by storm-tossed ship, where Gon meets Leorio and Kurapika, the only other applicants who aren’t devastated by bouts of seasickness.
Having survived the terrors of the high seas, Gon and his companions now have to prove their worth in a variety of tests in order to find the elusive Exam Hall. And once they get there, will they ever leave alive…?”
