On the Podcast: Emma Corrin Has Entered Their Villian Era

Actor Emma Corrin is no stranger to playing iconic characters: After their breakout role as Princess Diana on the hit Netflix historical drama The Crown—which earned them a Golden Globe—Emma went on to play Lady Chatterley herself in a movie adaptation of D. H. Lawrence’s Lady Chatterley’s Lover, and Orlando in a stage adaptation of Virginia Woolf’s eponymous novel. Now, Emma has officially entered their villain era, starring as Cassandra Nova, the evil twin sister of Charles Xavier, in Marvel’s Deadpool & Wolverine, out tomorrow. “I’m really enjoying being more selective with the roles I do, and the realization that I don’t need to always be working,” Emma told Vogue’s Hannah Jackson and Emma Specter in the podcast studio.

Emma doesn’t only take risks in their work, but also in their fashion choices. Last year, they were a key force behind the pantless-dressing trend, wearing bedazzled underwear and a nude-toned turtleneck at Miu Miu’s fall 2023 show in Paris; and during their Deadpool & Wolverine press tour this summer, they wore Saint Laurent suspenders sans pantalons. These looks—dreamed up by Emma and their stylist Harry Lambert—stray pretty far from what Emma tends to put on day-to-day. But the performance of wearing something a little outside their comfort zone is, they explain, just part of the fun.

Earlier on the show, Chioma joins our guest hosts to chat about the major news from the weekend: Biden dropping out of the presidential race and Kamala Harris leaping into it. (Emma Specter admits that she was at a lake when all this broke on Sunday, and had to file her coverage for Vogue from the back of an Uber.) The fashion world had its share of breaking news, too, what with Peter Hawkings departing Tom Ford after less than a year as its creative director. As astrologer Chani Nicholas warned us last week, a lot of transition and change is upon us.

Until next week!
