Umkhokha: The Curse actor Kini Shandu getting married to his lover Andile Khanyile.

UMKHOKHA: THE CURSE actor Kini Shandu got married to his virgin girlfriend, Andile Khanyile.

The wedding took place at the end of the Shembe Church’s July gathering held at Ebuhleni north of Durban where many couples got married in front of Shembe leader, Inkosi Unyazilwezulu Shembe, on Sunday, 28 July.

Dancing together and kneeling down in front of the leader and putting their hands on the Holy Bible they said, “I do” and a white dot was placed on the bride’s forehead as a symbol that she’s still a virgin.

Kini, who plays the controversial Ndlovu on Umkhokha: The Curse, paid lobola for the love of his life in April 2023. 

He also did a traditional wedding engagement (umkhehlo) and traditional exchange of gifts (Umembeso) in December last year at Andile’s home in Nongoma, northern KZN.

The 39-year-old multi-talented actor, presenter, and businessman from eNseleni outside Richard Bay told Daily Sun the actual wedding will be held in December.

“As Shembe Church members, we start by getting married in the church during the big gathering in front of our leader.

“Although we’ll be having the actual wedding in December, we’re officially married now,” he said.

Kini said according to the church’s tradition, those who got married in the church have a few months to have their actual wedding at home, and theirs will be held at his home in eNseleni.

Kini, who is former SABC1 Daily Thetha and Gagasi FM presenter, has dated Andile for three years without engaging in sexual intercourse before marriage.

He said church leader, Inkosi Unyazilwezulu told them their wives are in their churches.

He added that the wedding ceremony will be in accordance with the Shembe Church culture.
