Crystal Palace fans react to Newcastle United in talks to sign Marc Guehi – Interesting/Amusing
Crystal Palace fans have been commenting on the news that Newcastle United are now in talks to sign Marc Guehi.
The England defender with now less than two years left on his contract and refusing to sign a new extended one.
Which means his club will be in a very weak position if they don’t sell Marc Guehi this summer, whether that is to Newcastle United or whoever.
Always interesting to gauge the reaction of the other club’s supporters in this kind of situation.
With Crystal Palace fans, I would say judging by their comments (see below), they are generally resigned to the fact they are going to lose Marc Guehi this month BUT would rather pretty much anybody but Newcastle United bought him! If it is going to be Newcastle that he goes to, Crystal Palace fans naturally wanting the most ridiculous amount to be paid…
Crystal Palace fans reacting to news that Newcastle United are in talks to sign Marc Guehi – Comments via their Palace Holmesdale message board:
‘The latest is Newcastle have approached us.
I highly rate Guehi however if we can get close to £70m with him refusing to sign a new deal then it’s time to sell.’
‘I’d set £70mil as a minimum and start negotiations at £100mil.’
‘So at £70m he will almost certainly be gone..
Will be sad to see him go, but we can’t ignore the name of the game. Moneyball.’
‘Not good news.’
‘If its anywhere near the 70m mark, it is good news.’
‘I agree – for the right money I would rather lose Guehi than Eze or some of the others.’
‘What’s galling about the rumours of Man U, Newcastle, Spurs, Liverpool for our players is – if we kept our players we’d have every chance of finishing above all of them. They were all frankly rubbish at the end of last season, whilst we were, strangely, brilliant.’
‘We need to sell Guehi during this window, ideally for around £70m, as if he refuses a new contract, next year we will be lucky to get £40-50m for him!’
‘Or get him to sign a new four year term with £75m release clause after one year.’
‘Problem with that is he wont sign that. There is no point in having a release clause put into a contract if its for an amount no one will pay. Currently there is little interest in Guehi at £70m despite a faultless Euros performance. FFP killed off the silly season. No one is paying stupid money for players at the moment. Until its been scrapped I expect that to stay the same.’
‘I just can’t see him going to Newcastle, figure he’d rather be in the Capital unless one of the big clubs came for him.’
‘Presumably the Newcastle representatives will be “talking up” their future path to success driven by substantial investment (within PSR of course) & capabilities of joining that “big club” group.’
‘Sell him, buy Gyokeres from Sporting and you’ll still have enough left over to put new toilets in the Arthur and a trophy cabinet in the new stand.’
Hmmm
