Kelechi Iheanacho: New Sevilla forward reveals the story behind the ‘Senior Man’ nickname”

New Sevilla FC signee Kelechi Iheanacho has shared the story behind his nickname, “Senior Man,” as reported by Soccernet.ng.

The Super Eagles forward is widely known by this nickname among his teammates and the Nigerian football community. Known for his creativity, Iheanacho explained how the nickname came about and how it has stuck with him since.

“One day, Wilfred Ndidi, Daniel Amartey, and I were walking, and they started calling me ‘Senior Man.’ We joked about it and made videos, and soon everyone began calling me that name.” he stated on Sevilla’s club website.

Iheanacho joined the seven-time Europa League champions following the expiration of his contract with Leicester City on June 30. Although several European clubs showed interest, Sevilla emerged as the top choice for the Nigerian forward.

Regarding his move to Sevilla, Iheanacho said, “Yes, there were a lot of offers from various clubs, but Sevilla had a clear idea of what they wanted me to do and why they brought me here. Considering the football environment and the club’s achievements, I was certain that I wanted to come here. I’m excited to embrace this opportunity and give it my all,” he added.

The Super Eagles star is now the second Nigerian to join Sevilla this summer, following Chidera Ejuke.
