Shortly after, MGK stepped into the fray and attempted to assist his pal by handing him a pair of his trademark brass knuckles, only for the move to backfire when, having only taken a glancing blow, Knight intercepted Paul off the ropes to nail him with his BFT finishing move to secure a shock win.

MGK supported Paul at SummerSlam but ended up costing him dearCredit: WWEPaul had been United States Champion since last November, making him the longest reigning champion in all of WWE heading into SummerSlam.
He’d defeated legendary WWE star Rey Mysterio at Crown Jewel in Saudi Arabia in what was just his eighth match as a wrestler – and only his fifth singles outing.
Despite the lengthy reign, Paul successfully defended his US crown just twice – a stick LA Knight had used to beat him with on SmackDown 24 hours prior to the match.
He’d just about overcome Kevin Owens at Royal Rumble in earlier this year, also managing to see off Owens and Orton in a triple-threat match at WrestleMania in the Spring.
The 29-year-old has been adept at weaving in and out of different feuds and angles, however, having also challenged Cody Rhodes for the Undisputed WWE title at King and Queen of the Ring.
Having also failed in attempts to quality for the Money in the Bank and a World Heavyweight Championship match while holding the US title, it seems likely he’ll push ahead in WWE and challenge for higher honours having signed a new contract with the company last year.
