‘I’ll be the manager’ – Paddy Pimblett names Steven Gerrard and Mohamed Salah in dream Liverpool five-a-side team

Paddy Pimblett has named a five-a-side team stacked with Liverpool icons – but it’s missing a few of the club’s legends.

Pimblett is one of the biggest stars in the UFC, and when he’s not training to beat people up, he’s usually watching his favourite football team.

Pimblett kicked things off by naming Alisson Becker as Liverpool’s best-ever goalkeeper, even though he initially flirted with making Ray Clemence his No1.

“I don’t know whether you’ve got to have Clemence in there,” he told TNT Sports.

“Yeah, I’m gonna have to go with Allison.”

Naturally, the 29-year-old favoured Liverpool’s more recent players when building his team, but he was keen to ensure that the old guard got their flowers as well.

Pimblett added: “I was gonna say something like [Alan] Hansen, [Kenny] Dalglish or someone like that, but I didn’t really see them play in person.

“So, it would have to be [Virgil] Van Dijk and [Steven] Gerrard, of course.”

The MMA star was originally told that he had to take up one of the positions on the pitch before struggling to choose between ex-Red Luis Suarez and Mohamed Salah.

“The other player has to be Salah or Suarez,” Pimblett added.

“I’ll be the manager. I’m half s*** at footy anyway, lad.”

Pimblett, who hooked up with the Liverpool squad as they gave former manager Jurgen Klopp a big send-off, will be happy with how the Arne Slot era got started.

The new Liverpool Head Coach won his first competitive match last weekend.

After a worryingly lethargic first half, his side kicked into gear and ultimately ran out 2-0 winners – thanks to goals from Diogo Jota and Salah – against newly promoted Ipswich Town.

Pimblett will be expecting more big wins as the Premier League season progresses after previously backing Slot to build on the foundations laid by his predecessor.

“I think he’s gonna be very good,” he told DAZN.

“When Klopp came in we were finishing eighth in the league. He came in and turned it around and he’s won everything.”

“I think Slot’s gonna come in and he’s gonna be like [Bob] Paisley. He’s going to take over the team just the way Paisley did, and he’s going to win a lot more trophies than Jürgen.”
