Snl24 | Singer: People will always talk

Singer Phila Dlozi has shared some words of wisdom with young artists.

AFRO-SOUL singer and jazz sensation, Phila Dlozi believes people always have something to say.

He said it’s not a good idea for any musician to give up on their dreams over negative criticism.

This after the Joburg-based singer auditioned for Idols SA in 2018 only to be told to focus on something else as singing wasn’t for him.

But one of the Idols SA contestants sang one of his songs from his 2022 Sama nominated debut EP, Ekhayakomama, in 2023.

He said young musicians need to keep pushing, grow and work on their talent. Most importantly, they must believe in themselves.

Phila, who was born and raised in KwaSokhulu, KZN, told Daily Sun he wasn’t hurt by the judge’s comments as he believed in his craft.

He said it motivated him to work harder and show the world who he is.

Phila said he had no choice but to stand up and do what he was called for, which is to heal through music.

“I felt bad, but also remembered that no one owes me anything. Whatever their opinion about my singing I couldn’t control it, but what I did was pick myself up,” he said.

The musician said he kept trying until he got it right.

“It’s important not to lose hope because I always knew this was beyond my liking. I have a purpose to fulfil God’s mission,” he said.

Phila said he wanted to show young people that the music industry isn’t easy, but they must not lose hope.

“My advice to the young ones is not to play with their musical gift. This is because it’s a compelling thing, you will die young, respect it,” he said.

He said his fans must watch the space as he has more for them.

“What’s in store is more music for them. This will also include more shows about tradition,” he said.
