Pittsburgh Steelers named potential landing spot for big-name QB in 2025 free agency

Whether it’s Russell Wilson or Justin Fields, the Pittsburgh Steelers have a major question mark at the quarterback position in 2024 and beyond.

Neither quarterback is guaranteed to be a long-term solution, and both are set to hit the free-agent market in 2025, which of course will be a good thing if Wilson and Fields don’t pan out.

Knowing that, the Steelers could very well be in the market for a new quarterback in 2025 and Bleacher Report’s Kristopher Knox believes Pittsburgh would consider Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott if he’s available.

If Wilson or Fields doesn’t perform well enough to justify a long-term investment, Prescott should be at the top of the Steelers’ 2025 wish list. He’d provide the upper-echelon quarterback play Pittsburgh hasn’t had since Ben Roethlisberger’s prime, and he’d instantly place the Steelers among the AFC favorites.

The Steelers would have plenty to offer Prescott too. They have a stout defense, an elite head coach, a stable franchise and enough cap room to outbid every other likely suitor.

The key words there are “if he’s available,” as it’s very possible Prescott and Dallas get an extension done. The latest on that is “progress has been made” between the two sides as they try to hammer out a deal before Week 1, per Clarence Hill.

But if he is available, the Steelers would almost certainly try to bring Prescott in.

Barring the Steelers falling flat on their face in 2024, which is unlikely given their history under head coach Mike Tomlin and the talent on the roster, Pittsburgh will be looking for another quick fix in 2025 to put themselves in position to compete.

Even with all his faults, Prescott would easily be the best quarterback this franchise has had since Ben Roethlisberger. He would cost a ton, no doubt, but the Steelers are projected to have $62 million in cap space in 2025, according to Over the Cap.

If Prescott makes it to free agency and the Steelers are in the market for a win-now solution at quarterback, they absolutely should make a run at Prescott.
