To the Forest of Firefly Lights has the ending we never wanted to happen. The story revolves around Hotaru and Gin-a. Hotaru visits her grandparents’ house during vacation. She stumbles into the forest inhabited by spirits. Amidst her sorrows she meets Gin, a mysterious boy with a mask. 

She learns about the curse placed on him and their relation blooms into something inseparable. But the game of fates challenges them throughout their journey and the ending is what we never wanted to happen.

Angel Beats is another sad anime as it happens in afterlife. The question about where a soul goes after death was clear for Otonashi as he wakes up in a dimension between life and death. He was tangled in a group which fights against a god and their student council president, Angel. 

Happening in the afterlife, the anime delves into the emotional stories of the characters and the events of plot. To say in general, mostly everyone has a traumatic past contributing to the entirety of the plot.

Fantasy Romantic animated movie Ride your Wave leaves the audience in a ambiguous state. The story revolves around the life of a college student Hinako who loves to surf. Her love for surfing makes her fond of the ocean, later leading her meeting with Minato, who is a firefighter due to a very unexpected incident. 

The story moves in a very wholesome, sweet plot which changes to a very drastic turn of event, as it leads to one’s recovery by understanding the reality as you lose something very precious to you making the audience in a very sentiment state of mind.

An immortal being with no emotions and identity is sent to the earth and has the ability to change and shift its appearance to any dead being its near to. As the story progresses, we meet with a lot of well written characters with their own motives and life goals doomed by the narrative. 

An emotionless immortal entity’s journey to be more human throughout the narrative, meeting with more humans, it learns the feeling and characters of them, and each one play an important role in his molding, leaving the audience in an emotional state. The story portrays how life is meaningful with experiences and memories and that what make one more human even though the reality is heartbreaking truths.

David trying to survive the dark, violent, gritty, dystopian nightmare in the futuristic universe. As his life completely changes when he meets with Lucy, thus beginning his new journey. New characters get introduced to his life as the story progress, giving more meaning for his life. 

The anime showcases long- term impact of violence and trauma. As the story elevates, David and Lucy’s relation lead to a heartbreaking ending. The graphic, animation and futuristic world building is visually pleasing for the cyberpunk gaming community as well as the anime community. 

5. Clannad

Tomoya Okazuki, the delinquent finds his life dull. Living through the not so interesting life, he stumbles upon Nagisa. Nagisa is dedicated in reviving the drama club after finding about a life turning revelation. Having nothing much to do in his life, he decides to help Nagisa achieve her role. 

Along the journey he meets other four girls and learns about their problems. He helps them overcome their situations. Now he finds that may be his life was not that dull after all. The sequel movie, Clannad: After Story will make you cry your eyes out.

The story of childhood best friends reuniting to fulfil the wish of one of dead friend Menma, who comes to visit them as a spirit after her death might sound like a fantasy but it deals with much deeper and emotional aspect of life. Menma acts as a tie who tries to re unite all her friends back to say a proper goodbye for the last time. 

The separation of friendship, not being able to accept the reality of dearest friend’s departure, how human connection lose its touch after times, all issues are showcased in such realistic and sentimental way. As the story ends it leads the audience bawling their eyes out of emotions.

His dull life started to change after he encountered Kaori, a pianist too. Her lie bound them and forced him into the world if music again. But maybe the temporary relief through the lie won’t last forever.
