Burberry collaborates with British artist Gary Hume for the upcoming Summer 2025 show

Hume is creating an original set which will be presented in the show space at the National Theatre, London.

The set is inspired by Humes installation, Bays, which was first shown in a seminal group exhibition called the East Country Yard Show in Londons Docklands in 1990. The piece, made from vast water-resistant sheets, featured cutout rectangles influenced by the functional, modernist design of hospital doors a prominent feature in Humes paintings in the late 1980s and 1990s. Hume recently unearthed Bays for the first time since it was exhibited.

This collaboration continues Burberrys longstanding commitment to supporting British arts and culture. From partnering with contemporary British artists such as Sarah Lucas at Tate Britain and John Akomfrah at La Biennale Di Venezia, to supporting institutions like the Royal Academy of Arts, Burberry celebrates the best of British creativity, bringing it to a global audience.

Gary Hume is one of the leading British painters and sculptors of his generation, best known for his figurative and abstract paintings in high-gloss industrial paint. His work has received acclaim for its emotive themes, use of colour and longevity. He was shortlisted for the Turner Prize in 1996.

ABOUT GARY HUME

Gary Hume (b.1962) came to prominence in the early 1990s; his work is strongly associated with the Young British Artists movement.He established an internationalreputation for his large-scale paintings, featuring bright colours and depicting fragments of everyday life. Themes in Humes work range from his own memories to beauty, romance, mystery and politics. In 2001, the artist was elected a Royal Academician.
