Lamorne Morris Wins First Emmy Award For Supporting Actor Role In ‘Fargo’
Lamorne Morris has finally snagged his first Emmy Award. On Sunday’s (Sept. 15) 76th Emmy Awards ceremony, Morris was up for best-supporting actor in a limited series for his role as Deputy Witt Farr. Other nominations in the category included Jonathan Bailey from Fellow Travelers, Robert Downey Jr. in The Sympathizer, Tom Goodman-Hill for his role in Baby Reindeer, John Hawkes in True Detective: Night Country, Lewis Pullman for his role in Lessons in Chemistry, and Feud: Capote vs. The Swans’ Treat Williams.
Morris appeared shocked as the camera whipped around to him after his name was announced as the winner in the category. Lamorne kissed his mother, who was equal parts shocked and proud, and then made his way to the stage where he gave a speech that sounded like he was channeling his character, Winston Bishop, from New Girl. He thanked his mother, his daughter, who he said has consistently doubted him, and even Downey.
“Oh my gosh! Oh wow!” he shouted. “[Thank] God for allowing me to be here… I also want to thank God for my beautiful mother, who raised me. She’s been my biggest champion ever since I… you know, came out… you know, I dropped out of her butt. I know where babies come from!”
“[My] beautiful daughter. I love you. I told you I would do it. You’ve always doubted me,” he joked. “I’m here, I’m your leader. [Robert Downey Jr.] I have a signed poster of you in my house. Please sign it. Seriously,” he added.
Prior to the history-making win, Lamorne reacted to his nomination on his Instagram back in July. He referenced his work on New Girl and thanked FX for trusting him to star in their hit show, Fargo.
“Thank you to the @TelevisionAcad for finally recognizing all my hard work on New Girl,” he typed. “Although I believe it’s a lock, I do see I’m nominated alongside @RobertDowneyJr who stole my role in Tropic Thunder. My fellow nominees and I won’t let this slide. This is a great honor and I couldn’t be more excited! Truly blessed to work with such a talented cast and crew! Special thank you Noah for the opportunity and trusting me to bring Witt Farr to life! Go @fargo!”
