Play Fantasy United v Barnsley

Monday 16 September 2024 11:14

The Premier League takes a momentary pause for the Reds this midweek, but Fantasy United points continue to be up for grabs as the Carabao Cup returns to Old Trafford.

Erik ten Hag’s team enter the competition with a third-round tie at home to Barnsley on Tuesday (20:00 BST), which will be your latest chance get involved with our official fantasy football game.

Fantasy United is active for every men’s match across all competitions for the remainder of the campaign, and with the fixtures now beginning to arrive thick and fast, so are your opportunities to dominate the leaderboard.

The United stars that you add to your digital Player Trading Cards collection will determine who you have available to select in your five-man line-up, which must be submitted up to 90 minutes before kick-off on matchday.

That means that squads must be finalised by 18:30 BST on Tuesday, in order for you to score points as a result of the on-field actions of your chosen players against Barnsley.

But who will you opt to go with? Ten Hag’s pre-match press conference, which is likely to feature the latest team news, may be worth checking out before you hit save on your team for Tuesday.

The boss may give some clues on his selection policy for the League Cup tie, or any potential starters, when he speaks to the media later today (Monday). Part one of the briefing will be available to view on ManUtd.com and the United App from 16:30 BST, before part two is released at 22:30 BST tonight.

WHO SCORED BIG V SOUTHAMPTON?

While the Reds earned three Premier League points with Saturday’s victory over the Saints, there were also plenty of returns to be had for our fantasy managers.

It may come as no real surprise that summer signing Matthijs de Ligt bagged the most points (16) of any United player, after the defender scored his first goal for the club (five points) before helping keep a clean sheet as a starter (four points) in the 3-0 win.

Being in the XI earned Matthijs a further two points, as did completing more than 50 passes and having two shots on target. The Dutchman was also awarded a bonus point, for being our highest scoring defender at full-time.

De Ligt was on target in the minutes that followed the game’s big turning point – Andre Onana’s penalty save to deny Cameron Archer putting Southampton ahead – and that stop was a key contributor (five points) towards the Cameroonian goalkeeper’s tally of 14.

Diogo Dalot, the top overall scorer after four rounds of our fantasy game this season, completes the top three having got 13 points at St Mary’s. The full-back notably got the assist (three points) for Alejandro Garnacho’s stoppage-time strike, moments before his part in our defensive shutout was confirmed by the final whistle.

METPOST1, managed by Dave boy, was the top-scoring Fantasy United team with a massive 103 points. It included each of the three aforementioned players, scoring double points from a Rare version of De Ligt and triple returns from an Ultra-Rare Onana, while also featuring Lisandro Martinez and Bruno Fernandes. Well played!
