Seattle Seahawks worked out QB Ian Book plus 5 other NFL free agents going into Week 3

The Seattle Seahawks players won’t report to their first practice of the week until later today at the VMAC. However, the front office got Week 3 started with a bang, bringing in six free agents from around the NFL for workouts on Tuesday.

Here’s a review of who they brought in for a visit yesterday, according to Aaron Wilson at KPRC2.

QB Ian BookThe most noteworthy visit was that of former Notre Dame quarterback Ian Book (6-foot-0, 2012 pounds). After his college career Book was taken in the fourth round of the 2021 NFL draft by the New Orleans Saints. He started one game for them as a rookie, throwing two interceptions and no touchdowns. The Saints waived him the following August and since then he’s put in time with several teams, including the Philadelphia Eagles, New England Patriots and most recently the Kansas City Chiefs, who waived him a few weeks ago.

Seattle has been without a third quarterback since they released P.J. Walker on roster cutdown day, but they have been sniffing around several different free agent quarterbacks ever since.

WR Denzel MimsThe biggest name in the bunch belongs to Denzel Mims, who balled under Matt Rhule at Baylor but has yet to find any lasting success at this level. The New York Jets picked him in the second round of the 2020 draft and he played 30 games for them over the next three seasons. However, Mims only totaled 676 total receiving yards and zero touchdowns.

The Jets traded him to the Detroit Lions last summer but they waived him a month later with an injury. Since then he’s also put in time with the Pittsburgh Steelers and Jacksonville Jaguars but hasn’t appeared in a live game since 2022.

WR Miles BoykinApparently determined to look at several new options at wide receiver, general manager John Schneider also invited former Baltimore Ravens receiver Miles Boykin for a visit. Also a product of Notre Dame, Boykin was a third-round pick by Baltimore back in 2019. He scored seven touchdowns over the next two years with the Ravens but hasn’t found the end zone since the 2020 season. He was most recently-released by the Giants.

WR Jaelen GillReceiver number three was undrafted rookie Jaelen Gill, who had a pretty unique college career. He put in two years at Ohio State, followed by three at Boston College and then finished off at Fresno State in 2023. Gill had a breakout year, totaling 49 catches, 516 yards and six touchdowns last season. Gill spent some time with Jim Harbaugh and the Los Angeles Chargers earlier this offseason.

WR Tanner KneuThe last receiver on the list was another undrafted rookie, Tanner Kneu out of Eastern Michigan. During his time in the MAC Kneu put up 154 catches, 1,866 yards and 17 touchdowns. He first signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers after the draft. He was waived last month after spending the entire offseason with them.

CB Tyler HallLast but not least, the Seahawks also brought in an experienced corner. Tyler Hall (5-foot-10, 190 pounds) played his college ball at Wyoming, where he totaled four interceptions and 22 passes defensed. After going undrafted, he landed with the Atlanta Falcons but has also put in time with the LA Rams, Las Vegas Raiders and the Philadelphia Eagles, who waived him about one month ago. All together Hall has appeared in 31 NFL games with six starts.
