Jets’ Aaron Rodgers: ‘Felt Great’ to ‘Play Meaningful Football’ in Win vs. Titans

Aaron Rodgers enjoyed his first win as a New York Jet on Sunday, leading Gang Green to a 24-17 road victory over the Tennessee Titans. It was a big moment for the 40-year-old Rodgers, who suffered a season-ending Achilles injury in Week 1 last year.

During his weekly appearance on the Pat McAfee Show on Tuesday, Rodgers was asked whether it felt good to be back out there in a competitive environment, which saw the Jets take a 24-17 lead after a Braelon Allen touchdown run with 4:31 remaining in regulation.

“It felt great,” Rodgers said.

“To play meaningful football, to feel healthy. I had a big two-and-a-half yard scramble early in the game, so I felt like I was moving pretty good. I got my average up to zero from minus-one yards per carry, which is huge.

“Listen, I want the ball in my hands in the fourth quarter. That’s why we grow up dreaming about playing football. It’s not just to be out there and hand the ball off. It’s to go out there and make adjustments on the fly and be called upon to make timely throws to win the game. I’m thankful for that…

Rodgers then ran through the check and the blocking on the Allen touchdown run, crediting his teammates, before adding:

“Those are the plays you want. You want the ball in your hand, in crunch time, making the right decisions to win a football game. There’s nothing like competition and being out there in the moment. Being out there in the fire and having to play your best in the most important time.”

Rodgers and the Jets endured a tough Week 1, falling 32-19 on the road to the defending NFC champion San Francisco 49ers. But the offense clicked in Week 2, with the team accounting for three touchdown drives of 70 or more yards.

It’s still early, but it looks like the Jets should be playing meaningful football all year as they search for their first playoff appearance since 2010. Rodgers certainly provides a huge boost to the offense, which looks much-improved over last year.
