Player Summary:

Dontae Manning is a versatile CB who plays for the University of Oregon. He has the ability to play in the boundary, nickel defense, dime and blitz package. He has battled a knee and arm injury during his college career. Manning has solid size and weight with room for muscle gain. Typically, Manning sets low with a forward lean and shifts his weight to toes. He has excellent straight-line speed and average on vertical. His speed allows him to keep up with receivers in man coverage. He has solid instincts at the top. He displays the ability to recover when initially beaten in coverage. Manning is able to mirror routes and make adjustments with his impressive footwork. He is a solid player in man coverage and has good hip fluidity during transitions. Manning can improve on his FBI, ability to read the QB and route anticipation. Manning has shown that he is capable of catching jump balls but can be inconsistent in traffic. When Manning tackles below the waist he tends to be beaten in the route. He also has decent hands. Manning can improve on his physicality, leverage and tackling technique. He relies heavily on his speed to make up ground instead of engaging with ball carriers. He has average COD and overall movement skills. While continuing to develop this season he needs to show more production by being more efficient with his hands and down conversion. Manning has great athleticism but needs to improve on his ability to play big and show dominance on the field.

Scheme Fit:

Press CB/Outside man/Special teams-gunner or KR.

Power Statement:

Manning can continue to develop at cornerback by focusing on his coverage skills and physicality. Due to his lack of consistency he is a player who you can win without on defense. Manning will utilize his speed and agility to excel on special teams.
