Packers QB Jordan Love (knee) not expected to play vs. Titans; Malik Willis will start against former team Sep 21, 2024

It will be at least another week of recovery for Jordan Love, which will open the door for Malik Willis to face the team that drafted him.

Love is not expected to play against the Tennessee Titans on Sunday, NFL Network Insiders Tom Pelissero and Ian Rapoport reported on Saturday night, per sources. Love could return in Week 4 against the Vikings, Rapoport added.

The 25-year-old Love, who was listed as questionable to play in Week 3, will miss his second game of the season and Willis will get his second consecutive start.

Love sprained his MCL in the Packers’ Week 1 defeat against the Philadelphia Eagles during the NFL’s first-ever game in Brazil. It was reported that he could miss anywhere from three to six weeks. It’s looking like he’ll miss two after back-to-back weeks being questionable.

Love returned to practice this week, but head coach Matt LaFleur and the Packers will go the cautious route, and who can blame them.

Love’s inactivity lays the groundwork for an intriguing matchup for Willis, although he downplayed any revenge factor taking on Tennessee earlier in the week.

Willis quarterbacked the Packers to a Week 2 victory over the Indianapolis Colts in a feat all the more impressive as he was traded from the Titans to Green Bay on Aug. 26, just a few weeks before taking the starting reins.

Willis, a third-round pick in 2022, was seen as a hopeful franchise QB for the Titans, but he struggled in his two seasons with Tennessee. For Green Bay, however, Willis had what was likely his finest career performance, completing 12 of 14 passes for 122 yards, his first NFL touchdown pass and no interceptions.

Love will have to wait for another week, as Willis will return to Nashville as the Packers’ starter for at least one more game.

Green Bay (1-1) kicks off against Tennessee (0-2) at 1 p.m. ET Sunday.
