The path to glory is always harder than the glory itself, and the race at Saalbach was no exception for Shiffrin. Initially, Mikaela found herself in second place after the first run, with Anna Swenn Larsson leading the pack. But there was no way Mikaela would let the opportunity for her emphatic 97th victory slip away. She upped the ante and closed the gap, clocking 1:53.22 to secure a decisive win.

Following her triumph, Mikaela was visibly excited while interacting with the FIS. Expressing elation at her final season race going pin-pointedly well for her, the champion skier also said, “I am looking forward to next season already. I never focus too much on the numbers (winning statistics) but now feel okay with them. It is not pressure, it is just an honor.” Interestingly, as Mikaela’s career accomplishments already look astonishing, she had the opportunity to record 100 wins last season.

Unfortunately, a downhill debacle at Cortina d’Ampezzo resulted in a career-threatening injury for Mikaela, where she sustained a sprained tibiofibular ligament and MCL. This forced her to sit out for a significant period. However, the Olympic gold medalist’s hunger remains undiminished. As she looks forward to making further strides, here’s everything you need to know about her upcoming World Cup.
