MZANSI is ready to celebrate Heritage Day.

Several events will be held in and around the country on Tuesday, 24 September.

Free State: Heritage Day will be commemorated at Meqheleng Stadium in Ficksburg under the month-long theme: ā€œCelebrating the lives of our heroes and heroines who laid down their lives for our freedomā€.

The theme puts the spotlight on South Africaā€™s liberation movement, which received various forms of solidarity and support from neighbouring countries.

KZN: King Misuzulu KaZwelithini, together with KZN Sports Arts and Culture, invites Amabutho and the nation to attend Umkhosi Welembe celebration at Stanger High School in KwaDukuza.

The commemoration is in honour of Shaka Zulu. King Misuzulu is expected to deliver the keynote address.

Cape Town: The 11th Golden Shield Heritage Awards (Gosha) will be held at the Artscape Theatre, Cape Town on Tuesday, 24 September.

This is an initiative of the National Heritage Council of South Africa whose aims is to recognise excellence in the heritage sector and honour ordinary South Africans at grass-roots level who have been actively involved in the conservation and management of our heritage.Ā 

Joburg: The Department of Basic Education will host a HeritageĀ and Literacy MonthĀ event focusing on mother tongue literacy under the theme: ā€œLanguage, Our Heritage Family Dayā€ celebration.

The event will be held at the Sci-Bono Discovery Centre, Corner Miriam Makeba and Helen Joseph streets in Newtown, Joburg, from 9am.

This will be a celebration of language and heritage. It is aligned with Unescoā€™s 2024 focus on promoting multilingualism. The event will also include a panel discussion on Mother Tongue Based Bilingual Education (MTBBE) to create context into the department’s MTBBE rollout for grade 4 in 2025.

The Rosebank Art & Craft Market will celebrate Heritage Day in style at the Rosebank Mall. The market is a hub for supporting African artisans who will sell their African products.
