Premier League team of the season so far in 2024/25

Liverpool have five players in the best Premier League XI of the season so far and only David Raya makes the cut for Arsenal.

This is based on WhoScored ratings and at this stage, every player must have started at least four of five Premier League games.

GOALKEEPER: David Raya (Arsenal)

The Arsenal goalkeeper has not made the most saves (that’s Mark Flekken) and does not have the highest save percentage (that’s Alisson), but all but four of his 23 saves have been from shots within the penalty area. Most of them from Man City.

RIGHT-BACK: Pedro Porro (Tottenham)

At this stage of the season, a Premier League goal makes all the difference to a defender’s rating. Though it’s worth noting that only Trent Alexander-Arnold has created more chances. And nobody on either side of the North London derby matched his four tackles or his four key passes.

CENTRE-BACK: Virgil van Dijk (Liverpool)

No centre-half has made more interceptions, no centre-half has made more clearances, only Dominic Calvert-Lewin has won more aerial battles in the whole Premier League.

CENTRE-BACK: Ibrahima Konate (Liverpool)

Van Dijk’s partner since half-time of that opening day is also Van Dijk’s partner here, with the Frenchman adding an assist to his impressive numbers against Bournemouth.

LEFT-BACK: Antonee Robinson (Fulham)

Last season was so poor for left-backs that the PFA did not even name a left-back in their Premier League team of the season. But Robinson – who somehow remained at Fulham despite reported interest from Liverpool and Manchester United – has already claimed two assists this season to give himself a head start. Add the most tackles of any Premier League left-back this season and he is a shoo-in.

CENTRAL MIDFIELD: Ryan Gravenberch (Liverpool)

A really surprisingly excellent start to the season for the Dutchman, who has been successful in 12 of 16 attempted tackles across five games and ranks very highly for interceptions and blocked passes.

CENTRAL MIDFIELD: Youri Tielemans (Aston Villa)

Added a second assist of the season v Wolves but Tielemans has also emerged with the ball in 16 of his 18 attempted tackles. After a poor first season at Villa, the Belgian has been exemplary this season.

RIGHT WING: Mohamed Salah (Liverpool)

Created six chances against Bournemouth and notched his fourth Premier League assist in just five games. Add three goals and he edges ahead of Bukayo Saka here.

ATTACKING MIDFIELD: Kevin de Bruyne (Manchester City)

A player who might be in his final season in the Premier League, and it could be another absolute belter. He was overshadowed by Kovacic against Chelsea but he claimed a goal and an assist against Ipswich and then created six chances in the win over West Ham. Only Dwight McNeil has created more chances in the Premier League so far. But James Maddison is breathing down his neck here.

LEFT WING: Luis Diaz (Liverpool)

It took Diaz until early February to reach the five-goal mark last season but he reached that mark in September as he began life under Arne Slot with a bang. Also gets through an impressive amount of defensive work, which keeps him ahead of Salah in the WhoScored rankings.

STRIKER: Erling Haaland (Manchester City)

Ten goals in five games. His statistics continue to be utterly ludicrous.
