Better than Club Brugge & Antwerp stars: Nigerian striker thrilled to lead Belgian league topscorer chart

KRC Genk forward Tolu Arokodare is riding high at the top of the Belgian First Division A goal-scoring rankings and couldn’t be more delighted, Soccernet.ng reports.

The Nigerian striker’s fine form has put him level with Sporting Charleroi’s Daan Heymans on six goals, surpassing notable players such as Club Brugge’s Skov Olsen, who has four, and Antwerp’s Tjaronn Chery and Jacob Axel Ondrejka, both on three.

For Arokodare, sitting at the top of the scoring charts signals more than just individual success — it’s proof of the hard work he’s putting in for himself and for his team.

Reflecting on his achievement, the striker told HBVL as per Voetbal Primeur:

“It shows that I do certain things well. Hopefully, I can score even more.

“Or will that become more and more of a goal? It is an individual goal, but the most important thing is that I help the team. By scoring goals, or by doing other things that benefit the team.”

Genk have been almost unstoppable in their league campaign so far, with six wins and only one draw in their first eight matches, amassing 19 points.

Arokodare’s recent contribution came in a 4-0 win against Dender, where he opened the scoring with a scrappy goal.

“It wasn’t my best goal, but that doesn’t matter. A goal is a goal,” Arokodare laughed, recounting how he bundled the ball in after a messy rebound.

The Nigerian’s journey at Genk has been one of steady improvement. After netting just two goals in 11 matches during his first season, Arokodare found his rhythm last term, finishing with 12 goals in 40 league games.

Now, at 23, his career tally stands at 56 goals in 156 league appearances across four European clubs — a remarkable achievement for the rising star.
