Everton vs Crystal Palace: Preview, predictions and lineups

Two of six winless teams do battle in the Premier League this weekend as Everton welcome Crystal Palace to Goodison Park.

Neither side has enjoyed the start to the 2024/25 campaign they were hoping for, but both Sean Dyche and Oliver Glasner must believe that brighter days are just around the corner.

Everton secured their first point of the season away at Leicester last weekend having lost their opening four games of the new campaign. While that was a contest the visitors undoubtedly could’ve won, the positive result was at least a step in the right direction, especially after they were knocked out of the Carabao Cup by Southampton.

Palace lit up the Premier League under Glasner down the stretch last season, but they’re yet to ignite through the first month or so of 2024/25, They’ve safely progressed into the fourth round of the Carabao Cup, but a first league win has so far eluded them. The Eagles have, however, already taken points off Chelsea and Manchester United through five games.

Here is 90min’s guide to Everton vs Crystal Palace in the Premier League.

Everton are set to receive a huge injury boost for this fixture with Jarrad Branthwaite poised to make his first start of the season. The towering centre-back turned out for the Under-21s last weekend after recovering from a groin injury.

The hosts are also stronger at full-back with Nathan Patterson returning from injury and Vitaliy Mykolenko healthy again. Idrissa Gueye should also be back in Dyche’s XI after he missed last week’s draw at Leicester for personal reasons.

Armando Broja, Youssef Chermiti, and Seamus Coleman remain sidelined.

Everton predicted lineup vs Crystal Palace (4-4-1-1): Pickford; Patterson, Tarkowski, Branthwaite, Mykolenko; Lindstrom, Gueye, Mangala; McNeil; Ndiaye; Calvert-Lewin.

Trevoh Chalobah looks ready to make his Palace debut this weekend / Harriet Lander/GettyImages

Trevoh Chalobah may finally be ready to make his first Crystal Palace start this weekend after he joined the club on loan from Chelsea at the end of the summer transfer window.

Chalobah could replace Chris Richards in Palace’s back three with fellow summer arrival Maxence Lacroix retaining his place.

Cheick Doucoure’s continued absence has forced Daichi Kamada into a deeper midfield role, and we could see Glasner partnerJean-Philippe Mateta with Eddie Nketiah once again this weekend.

Matheus France and Chadi Riad are long-term absentees.

Crystal Palace predicted lineup vs Everton (3-4-1-2): Henderson; Lacroix, Guehi, Chalobah; Munoz, Wharton, Kamada, Mitchell; Eze; Nketiah, Mateta.

The two teams can take solace in knowing they’re not the only pair struggling at the foot of the Premier League table, but both will want to secure their maiden wins before the October break.

The return of Branthwaite is massive for the hosts, while Chalobah’s integration will benefit the visitors greatly. As the weeks progress, we can expect both teams to improve on their slow starts.

A competitive encounter is in store at Goodison on Saturday, with Everton, thanks to Branthwaite’s comeback, better positioned to mitigate the numerous attacking threats Palace possess. Overall, the host match-up pretty well with Glasner’s side, and they’ll scrap around for another point.
