Nicole Kidman and Harris Dickinson explore power dynamics with a high-stakes love affair in the trailer for the erotic thriller Babygirl.
A24 releases writer-director Halina Reijn‘s feature in theaters nationwide on Dec. 25, although the film is a bit steamier than traditional holiday fare. Also starring Antonio Banderas and Sophie Wilde, Babygirl centers on Romy (Kidman), a feared CEO who begins a romance with Samuel (Dickinson), a much-younger intern at her company.
“If we’re going to do this, we need to set some rules that you and I both agree on,” Dickinson instructs Kidman in the trailer. “Starting with, I tell you what to do, and you do it.”
At a later point in the footage, Kidman tells her new beau, “You’re very young. I don’t want to hurt you.” Dickinson replies, “Hurt me? I think I have power over you because I could make one call, and you lose everything. Does that turn you on when I say that?”
Reijn wrote and helmed the movie that marks her directorial follow-up to the 2022 horror comedy Bodies Bodies Bodies. Babygirl counts Reijn, David Hinojosa and Julia Oh as producers.
Babygirl premiered at the Venice Film Festival in August. In his review for The Hollywood Reporter, chief film critic David Rooney wrote that the film is “sexy, dark and unpredictable, with a tone that mixes tension and caustic humor.”
He continued, “Kidman is in spectacular form, swinging from outrage to fear to ravenously lustful consent.”
Kidman’s recent credits include the features Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom and A Family Affair, along with the series The Perfect Couple and Expats. Dickinson is known for roles in the films Triangle of Sadness, Where the Crawdads Sing and The Iron Claw, in addition to appearing in the series A Murder at the End of the World.
