The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives Swings Into Season 2
Despite the concerns of many, #MomTok survives another day. Hulu confirmed on Thursday, October 3, that its breakout reality series The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives has officially been greenlit for a second season. The streamer has ordered 20 additional episodes of the series that will begin debuting in spring 2025.
âThere was a philosophical question raised in season one which was âCan #MomTok survive this?ââ Rob Mills, executive vice president, unscripted and alternative entertainment, Walt Disney Television, said in a statement. âThe answer unequivocally is yes! Spring 2025, get your dirty sodas ready!â
In the days before an official announcement, Deadline reported that the streamer was âironing out points to get the girls back together.â The first season, which became Huluâs most-watched unscripted premiere of 2024, centered on eight original cast members: Taylor Frankie Paul, Jennifer Affleck (married to Zac, the supposed cousin of Ben and Casey Affleck), Demi Engemann, Whitney Leavitt, Mayci Neeley, Jessi Ngatikaura, Mikayla Matthews, and Layla Taylor.
The eight-episode series was born out of a âsoft swingingâ scandal that went viral on TikTok in 2022 after Paul confessed to engaging in extramarital activities with others in the friend group. A divorce from her then husband and arrest on charges of domestic violence, assault, and criminal mischief followed, as did Paulâs pregnancy with on-again, off-again boyfriend, Dakota. (Paul pleaded guilty to aggravated assault last August, and the rest of the charges were dropped.) Their rocky relationship became a major storyline in the first season, along with Paulâs feud with fellow TikTok influencer Leavitt. They came to represent the sinners (Paulâs followers) and saints (Leavittâs allies)âtwo fractured parts of a social media enterprise that has now become reality TV gold.
Last month, executive producer Jeff Jenkins stopped by VFâs Still Watching podcast to discuss his goals for season two of The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives. âMy hope is that Jen and Zac will be back if there is a season two, and that they both learned from what they went through and what they shared in season one,â he said of the tumultuous couple, whose marital issues become a hot topic later in the season. âThat they can keep growing and working through their challenges and stay together and stay strong. To Zacâs credit, and I havenât spoken to him directly, but I have heard through the grapevine that he is glad that he did the project. Heâs watched the episodes, and there are some things he wants to change.â (As a reminder, Zac threatens to divorce Jen over her presence at Chippendales during a Las Vegas girls trip.)
Jenkins told VF that the show has only scratched the surface of all that is #MomTok. âBelieve meâif we get a season two, the second we get it, we will head out and start shooting again,â he said. âThereâs some incredibly intense, jaw-dropping stuff that we didnât even get to.â
