paiN Gaming vs Team Liquid Recap – Worlds Swiss Stage Day 5

CBLoL’s last hope goes against one of the best teams from NA in another elimination best-of-three at Worlds 2024.

With the consolidation of The Americas, fresh new rivalries form on the Worlds stage in paiN Gaming vs Team Liquid.

Team Liquid stands as one of the top teams in all of the LCS. The mostly Korean roster uses international talent to dominate domestically. But a slow start at League’s premier championship and their region’s history made them the favorites in the fight.

Up against them is paiN Gaming, a Brazilian team whose historical Swiss entrance shook the scene.

Both teams had a lot to gain, and everything to lose. Learn what went down in our paiN Gaming vs Team Liquid Worlds 2024 recap below!

paiN Gaming vs Team Liquid Recap
paiN Gaming vs Team Liquid Game 1

Team Liquid’s team comp looked very good, but seemed to rely too much on their jungler Vi’s performance. That said, NA teams have only lost to Brazil in Worlds two times, so they could still take risks.

An early lane swap let Impact soak in a ton of botlane experience. Afterwards, 1-for-1’s in the midlane kept things even in the laning phase.

Thanks to an early gold injection, Yeon, APA and UmTi led the charge and racked up the kills for Team Liquid until PNG TitaN and Wizer broke their momentum near Baron pit.

With the NA team on the backfoot, PNG had a buffer between assaults. Conservative play was seen from both sides. But eventually TL Yeon broke the silence, scoring three kills before pushing his team to siege bot lane and win Game 1.

Quick Stats:

Teams: PNG 0 – 1 TL
First Blood: PNG
Game Time: 36:39
Gold: 71.0k – 61.7kΒ
Kills: 14 – 8
Turrets: 9 – 3
Dragons:1 – 4
Barons: 0 – 1

paiN Gaming vs Team Liquid Game 2

Great follow-ups from CoreJJ’s Leona and UmTi’s Skarner put the NA boys on top for Game 2, which trivialized PNG’s midlane Orianna.

A huge 1-for-1 in the midlane led to a dicey wager for Void Grubs. Meanwhile TitaN lost his life on botlane as well as his summoner spells. With things getting chaotic this soon, UmTi lingered near his midlaner and scored a kill for his team.

Great plays from TL earned them a fire drake, but paiN Gaming impressively closed the score gap every time.

Both teams were relentless. TL found a third dragon 20 minutes in, but were still losing gold in the teamfights. One Baron later and things came to a head in a midlane skirmish where TL APA found the Neeko flank that won TL the best-of-three.

Quick Stats:

Teams: PNG 0 – 2 TL
First Blood: TL
Game Time: 29:25
Gold: 51.4k – 57.2kΒ
Kills: 16 – 15
Turrets: 3 – 9
Dragons: 1 – 3
Barons: 0 – 1
