Peaky Blinders Movie: Everything We Know So Far

Batten down the doors in Birmingham, because the Peaky Blinders are returning to set. Netflix officially announced the rowdy crew’s grand return, writing on social media (below) that Cillian Murphy and series creator Steven Knight are “reunited” as filming begins on the Peaky Blinders movie. “By order of the Peaky Blinders,” the streamer teased, “Tommy Shelby is back.”

The movie was first teased back in 2022, when Netflix scrapped plans for a seventh season in favor of a feature-length film. At the time, fans believed that the season 6 finale was the last they would ever see of ol’ Tommy Shelby and his chaotic family. Luckily, not even an Oscar win for Oppenheimer could stop Murphy from returning. “It seems like Tommy Shelby wasn’t finished with me,” the star stated at the time. But after the team revealed that it was at work on a new film, two years flew by without a peep. Thanks to some recent on-set photos from Netflix, we finally have confirmation that the Peaky Blinders movie is officially happening.

Some additional casting has trickled out as well, including undisclosed roles for Barry Keoghan and Dune: Part Two’s Rebecca Ferguson. Those are some big names, folks! Though we haven’t heard much about what the Shelby boys will get up to in the film just yet, here’s everything we know about it so far.

What’s Next for the Peaky Blinders? The sixth and final season dropped on Netflix back in 2022. Thankfully, that wasn’t the end. Creator Steven Knight made the rare decision to conclude the show’s run on television with a movie in theaters in lieu of a seventh season.

Now it sounds like those conflicts will take place on the big screen—maybe even with some big-budget action. “The biggest difference between a film and TV series is the budget,” Knight said in an interview with The Mirror. “When you do stuff for TV, you often have to ask people to imagine it. But with a film, you can really do it. You can blow stuff up. Will Tommy be giving James Bond a run for his money? Maybe. There are parallels. We always thought of Peaky as very cinematic, so we are finally finding a screen big enough for what we want to do.”

Who Will Appear in the Film?We don’t know much about who will be included in the cast aside from Keoghan, Murphy, and Ferguson. However, Knight seemingly confirmed that Paul Anderson will reappear as Tommy’s brother, Arthur. When asked whether the actor would be returning to the Peaky Blinders universe, Knight told Digital Spy, “It’s impossible to say yet. But the film—yes.”

Could There Be More Peaky Blinders After the Movie?Absolutely. Knight confirmed that he has two spin-offs in development at Netflix, including one “set in Boston during the middle of the twentieth century, a couple decades after the original Peaky Blinders.” As for the other one? “[It] would focus on Polly, the matriarch of the criminal Shelby clan.” Sounds like it may be a longer wait before the Shelby gang is back on your TV, but there certainly won’t be any shortage of Peaky Blinders action in the coming years.
