Yankees star doubles down on Royals ‘got lucky’ statement after Game 2 loss

New York Yankees star Jazz Chisholm made plenty of headlines after the Game 2 loss to the Kansas City Royals in the American League Division Series on Monday night.

Chisholm emphatically and confidently made it clear he doesn’t believe the Royals won the 4-2 game, but rather that the Yankees lost it.

“It still feels the same, that we’re gonna win [the ALDS],” Chisholm told the media Monday. “I don’t feel like anybody feels any different. … We still don’t feel like any team is better than us. We had a lot of missed opportunities tonight, so they just got lucky.”

It certainly caught most by surprise as this Yankees team has regularly shied away from making emphatic statements like this, especially after such a disappointing loss.

But Chisholm remained confident in his statement and even doubled down on the notion that the Royals “just got lucky” by reposting a graphic on social media.

On top of that, his statement wouldn’t cause such a rise if the Yankees’ performance in Game 2 was a one-off.

However, the Yankees squandered most of their opportunities to take control of the game. They left eight runners on base and were 1-for-6 with runners in scoring position.

Even in the 6-5 win in Game 1 of the series, the Yankees were an astounding 2-for-13 with runners in scoring position while leaving 11 men on base.

Those numbers aren’t going to get it done in the playoffs no matter what the situation or who the opponent is.

The Yankees now go into Game 3 on Wednesday night at Kauffman Stadium against Royals ace Seth Lugo, who earned an All-Star nod in 2024.
