The Chiefs and people of Manya Jorpanya in the Greater Accra Region on Saturday celebrated their annual Ngmayem festival with a call for political tolerance before, during and after the December elections.
That, the Chief of the area Nene Dr Tei-Djahene Korabo IV, explained was the only way to maintain the peace the country has enjoyed over 30 years after embracÂing democratic rule.
He said Article 42 of the 1992 constitution gives every Ghanaian from 18 years and above who is of sound mind the opportunity to vote.
Nene Korabo, who is also the Senior Asafoaste of the Shai State, indicated that Article 55 of the same constitution also gives every citizen the right to belong to a political party of their choice.
He added that such since everyÂone could not belong to only one party there was the need to respect the decision of others, and allow them to choose any political party they wanted to belong to without any interference or hindrances.
âAs we strive to pursue our divÂers political agenda we must also bear in mind the need for peaceful co-existence come December 2024 to once again prove to the world that indeed Ghana Wins,â he added.
The festival which coincided with the 26th anniversary of Nene Koraboâs enstoolment attractÂed politicians, religious leaders, traditional authorities and people from within and outside the Shai State was on theme: âUpholding Our Cultural Values to Ensure a Peaceful Election in 2024.â
The week- long celebration startÂed on Monday with clean-up activÂities, ceremonies in remembrance of the dead, games, free medical screening, visit to their ancestral home, the Shai Hills, live band music and thanksgiving services.
The area the Manya Matse stated had currently witnessed quite a number of development projects which included the a new state- of-the- art Ecobank who are also conÂstructing a nursery school, Chinese factories, a Police Station to beef up security, the Palm University and the upgrading of the town roads to the Shai Hills all in a bid to attract more investors.
He further appealed to the government to build a Senior High School for the area to help absorb the graduates from the Junior High Schools.
Nene Korabo noted that the Manya Palace was under conÂstruction and when completed, it would house all community royal activities meant for education and entertainment.
The Shai Osudoku District Chief Executive, Fred Ofei Tsum, in a speech read on his behalf, commended the Chief of the area for the massive development he had undertaken and urged the people to rally behind him for peace they were enjoying to be maintained.
Mr Tsum urged the electorates to vote massively for New Patriotic Presidential candidate, Dr MahaÂmudu Bawumia and the ParliamenÂtary Candidate Benjamin Nargeh to help break the â8â in order to continue with the good works of the government.
The Chief of Dodowa NuÂmese, Nene Okukrubour Akwasi Agyemang IV, on behalf of the Shai Traditional Council called for unity among the chiefs in Shai State to help develop the area.
The General Overseer of the Musama Disco Church, MocknaÂteeba Jehu Appiah Akabohah, who offered prayers, also charged the people to continue supporting the chief looking at the level of develÂopment projects he has underken, âGodâs hands are indeed on himâ he stated.
