Way-too-early Dallas Cowboys 2025 mock draft: Bye week edition

We are only a third of the way through the 2024 season and there is still a lot of football to play for the Dallas Cowboys. They are currently sitting at 3-3 entering their bye week, and if the season were over today, they’d hold the 16th overall pick in the first round.

Today, we thought we’d have a little bit of fun instead of dwelling on the doom and gloom surrounding the Cowboys organization right now by doing a way-too-early 2025 mock draft. Barring any more trades between now and the 2024 NFL trade deadline (November 5), Dallas still possesses five their original draft picks.

The Cowboys are currently without their original sixth- and seventh-round draft pick. Their seventh-rounder was part of the draft a trade with the Detroit Lions that landed them Tyler Guyton and the 2025 sixth-rounder was sent to the New York Giants for Jordan Phillips. They are expected to receive the max total of compensatory picks (4) next year though.

Now, with all of that in mind we will use Pro Football Focus (PFF) mock draft simulator for this exercise.

Round 1, Pick 16 – DE Abdul Carter, Penn State
Micah Parsons 2.0? From their physical makeup, athleticism, LB/DE versatility, down to the No. 11 jersey they both wore at Penn State, Abdul Carter and Micah Parsons are very similar players. Carter (6’3″, 260) is still a little raw after making the transition from LB to DE, but he is a Top 10 prospect in the 2025 NFL Draft and one Dallas shouldn’t pass on if he is available.

#PSU EDGE Abdul Carter is just getting more and more comfortable every week using a varied approach as a pass rusher. Hit a nasty ghost pass rush move vs. USC, but was also active dropping back into coverage and as a run defender.

Round 2, Pick 48 – CB Shavon Revel, East Carolina
Shavon Revel (6’2″, 190) is a Top 5 CB prospect in the 2025 draft class and probably would’ve been a surefire first-round draft pick if not for the ACL injury that cut his 2024 season short. Once healthy again, he would be a plug-and-play starter with Trevon Diggs and DaRon Bland in the Cowboys secondary.

ECU has a live one at cornerback in Shavon Revel.

Listed at 6-3 and 185 pounds, Revel is a twitched-up mover. Excellent through the hands, Revel is light-footed in press-man and possesses excellent eyes and feel in zone as well.

He’s got top-50 potential written all over him. pic.twitter.com/V2os6wD6v7

Round 3, Pick 80 – WR Kyren Lacy, LSU
Kyren Lacy (6’2″, 213) has taken over the WR1 role at LSU this year after playing second fiddle to both Malik Nabers and Brian Thomas Jr. last year in 2023. Lacy is slated to be the next big play WR to come out of LSU and would be a great addition to Dallas’ receiving core. He is exactly what they need at the position to help take pressure off of CeeDee Lamb.

Round 4, Pick 117 – DT Derrick Harmon, Oregon
With Osa Odighizuwa potentially leaving via free agency, the Cowboys will be in desperate need to upgrade their defensive line. Derrick Harmon has been an absolute stud this season after transferring from Michigan State to Oregon. He’s been one of the more disruptive DTs in the NCAA this year and is also pretty stout against the run as well.

Most impressive thing I came away from #Oregon DT Derrick Harmon’s performance vs. Ohio State: how effective he was in the run game against double teams. A couple times he anchored against doubles and made run stops.

Round 5, Pick 152 – RB D.J. Giddens, Kansas State
Fortunately for the Cowboys, the 2025 RB draft class is a deep one. Getting D.J. Giddens in the fifth round would be a steal. At 6’1″, 216-pounds he has the prototypical size of a RB1 and the skill set to be an upgrade over what they currently have at the position. He’d be the third consecutive Kansas State player drafted by Dallas (Deuce Vaughn, Cooper Beebe).
