Chargers HC Jim Harbaugh gets positive test results from cardiologist: ‘The heart of an athlete’ Oct 16, 2024

Los Angeles Chargers head coach Jim Harbaugh was in good spirts on Wednesday just a few days after experiencing an irregular heartbeat at the start of Sunday’s win over the Denver Broncos.

The reason? Harbaugh had received good news from his cardiologist just before his scheduled session with the assembled media. Such good news, it left Harbaugh boasting about his bill of health in typical Harbaughian manner.

“Got some test results back. ‘The heart of an athlete’ was the direct quote from my cardiologist,” Harbaugh smiled to reporters before flexing.

“So that made me feel good. Said the stress test was really good, too. I think he used the word incredible. I think he did. Said my stamina was incredible and got stronger as it got more stressed. Back in rhythm. Hopefully that sticks. Got the monitor on, so good news. I took it as a compliment. Blue twisted steel.”

Harbaugh told reporters on Monday that he will wear a heart monitor for the next two weeks and has been prescribed blood thinners to control his heartbeat after he dealt with an atrial flutter on Sunday.

The incident caused him to miss part of the first quarter of Sunday’s game in Denver while defensive coordinator Jesse Minter served as interim HC.

Harbaugh told reporters he might drink less Diet Coke and more water as part of lifestyle changes following Sunday’s events, per the L.A. Times, adding, however, that football is “right medication” as it keeps him feeling young.

The Chargers (3-2) play at the Arizona Cardinals (2-4) on Monday night.
