Broncos vs. Saints live score, updates, highlights from NFL ‘Thursday Night Football’ game
Contrary to what most expected when schedules were released for the 2024 season, Thursday’s matchup between the Broncos and Saints is not a game between veteran quarterback Derek Carr and rookie starter Bo Nix.
Rather, the youngster will face off against his fellow draftee Spencer Rattler, who was selected by New Orleans in the fifth round after Nix was taken 12th overall by Denver. A starting quarterback for both Oklahoma and South Carolina during his college career, Rattler replaced Carr after he went down with an oblique injury in Week 5.
Nix was a member of the SEC at Auburn when Rattler was at Oklahoma while the Sooners were still members of the Big 12, and they barely missed each other when the former transferred to Oregon in 2022, the same year the latter got his start in Columbia.

Thursday, they finally get their chance to compete in New Orleans, a matchup that also marks Broncos head coach Sean Payton’s first game against his former team. In 16 seasons with the Saints, Payton took his squad, headed almost his entire tenure by legendary quarterback Drew Brees, to three NFC Championship Games.Â
That included a Super Bowl victory in 2010 when Brees upset Payton Manning’s Colts 31-17 for the franchise’s first title. Now, Payton leads Manning’s second team after a 2023 trade between the franchises, seeking his second Super Bowl win and Denver’s fourth overall.Â
Nix & Co. enter the matchup at an even 3-3 through Week 6, favored to beat 2-4 New Orleans in a close game. Here’s everything to know about Broncos vs. Saints, including live scores, updates, and highlights from the NFL “Thursday Night Football” contest.Â

Fourth quarter10:53 p.m. â SAINTS TURNOVER-ON-DOWNS. The Saints go for it on fourth-and-five, but Rattler can’t make anything happen. Denver gets the ball back with a fresh set of downs at their own 40 with 7:25 to go.
10:50 p.m. â Kamara takes the first handoff of the drive for a gain of four, then Rattler fires one to Jackson by the right sideline for one more. On third-and-five, Rattler tries Means deep downfield but overthrows him.
10:48 p.m. â BRONCOS PUNT. Nine yards from Williams on his next run were not enough to secure the first down and Denver punts for the third time to the Saints 39, where Jackson runs it back to the Broncos 48.
10:47 p.m. â Williams gets another handoff and is stopped by Orji for a loss of two, setting up second-and-long from the Denver 6. Nix attempts to throw it out of the end zone but it’s knocked down, bringing up third down.
10:45 p.m. â Williams takes the first handoff of the drive and goes out of bounds after about a 15 yard gain. However, Adkins is called for offensive holding and the play is called back.Â
10:43 p.m. â SAINTS PUNT. New Orleans punt for the sixth time, giving the ball back to Denver at its own 15 with a fair catch by Wood. There are just over 10 minutes remaining in regulation.
10:42 p.m. â Another play begins with no huddle, and Rattler completes it short to Tipton for six yards to the 47, bringing up third-and-thirteen. Rattler is sacked yet again, however, taking his fourth of the night and forcing a punt.
10:40 p.m. â Rattler passes it short to Means, who takes it for 13 to the 50. The QB is then sacked on the next play after no huddle for a loss of nine by Bonitto. He now has five straight games with a sack.
10:38 p.m. â The Saints start with a short pass from Rattler to Tipton, who is pushed out of bounds at the 33 for a nine-yard gain. Surtain takes the next handoff and dives for a first down after Rattler misses Tipton on second-and-one.
10:36 p.m. â BRONCOS PUNT. Nix can’t escape a third-and-six situation, unable to scramble for the first. Dixon comes on to punt for the first time since the team’s opening drive. It’s fair caught by Jackson at the 24.
10:34 p.m. â The injury news keeps piling on for the Saints. Lattimore has been ruled out with a hamstring injury, likely re-aggrevating an issue he had earlier this year. Additionally, Adebo was sent to the hospital in an ambulance and has been ruled out as well with a knee injury.

Fifteen minutes remain for Rattler and the Saints to erase a 23 point deficit at home, but with the way the game is trending, Nix and Denver look solid.
10:30 p.m. â With just under a minute to go in the third, Nix starts the drive off with a short pass to Vele for 14 yards, but a penalty is called on Williams for offensive holding and the play is nullified.
10:29 p.m. â SAINTS PUNT! New Orleans boots it for the fifth time in seven drives, setting up the Broncos at their own 16 after a fair catch. Gray is called for illegal formation, and New Orleans earns its fifth penalty on the play.
10:28 p.m. â In addition to Saldiveri, the Saints have lost CB Lattimore, just after losing CB Adebo earlier in the game.Â

9:59 p.m. â PUNT SAINTS. A 39 second three-and-out is not the way the Saints expected to begin the second, but that’s what happened nonetheless. Hayball punts it to the Denver 22, where it is recovered by Mims for 12 yards.
9:57 p.m. â Rattler’s first pass of the half is incomplete to Wilson before he finds Kamara for a three-yard gain to the 33. On third-and-seven, Rattler attempts to find Johnson at the marker, but he is well covered by Mathis and can’t pull it in.

Half: Broncos 16, Saints 39:42 p.m. â Rattler finds Kamara up the middle for five yards to bring up third down, and the Saints call their final timeout with four seconds on the clock. Rattler kneels out the half and the team is booed off the field as both teams head to the locker room.

9:38 p.m. â Nix scrambles yet again before tip toeing out of bounds just shy of the marker. Payton sends the field goal unit on with fourth-and-four and 21 seconds before half.
9:37 p.m. â Once again, Nix misses a target, this time looking for Mims up the right sideline. Mims turns back to late to make the catch, then on second down Nix takes it himself and slides around the Saints 37 before Denver calls a timeout with 27 seconds on the clock.
9:35 p.m. â Nix is nearly picked off by Mathieu, who has 35 career interceptions, but the ball goes right through his hands. On third down, Nix finds Mims on the right sideline who goes out of bounds for a fresh set of downs. Â
9:33 p.m. â Nix finds Krull up the middle for a first down and the clock continues to run. Nix is then faced with pressure and spikes it to the ground to bring up second down from the Denver 49.
9:31 p.m. â Mims takes the return from the end zone to the 28, then Nix passes it short to Williams who is pushed out-of-bounds at the 36. On second-and-two, Nix tries to find Vele up the middle but he can’t pull it in, bringing up third down.Â
Broncos 13, Saints 39:30 p.m. â FIELD GOAL SAINTS! Down 13, the Saints elect to kick a field goal after initially sending the offense onto the field. Grupe hits it up the middle from 35 and shaves the margin to 10 with 1:57 before halftime.

9:22 p.m. â Rattler pitches it to Kamara on second-and-four, and the RB runs into Jackson who takes him down at the line of scrimmage for a gain of two. Now third down at the 50, Rattler scrambles into a long run deep into Denver territory until he runs out of bounds around the 20.

8:59 p.m. â Browning jumps into the neutral zone, and the Saints suddenly have a fresh set of downs at their own 40. Rattler’s next throw goes deep downfield toward Tipton who is tripped up on the run. He appeals for pass interference but no flag is thrown.
8:56 p.m. â New Orleans returns the kicks to the 35 where Rattler will begin attempting to even the score. He take a high snap and appears to control it, but he drops it and is unable to fully recover it before a Bronco defender knocks out the ball and returns it for a touchdown. 8:41 p.m. â The play is under review, however it looks as though Barton got to Rattler before his arm moved forward in the passing motion. It was recovered by Alexander at the Denver 45, where the Broncos will regain possession with 3:40 in the quarter.
8:39 p.m. â FUMBLE RECOVERED BY DENVER. Rattler passes his first ball of the drive to Means, who makes the catch at the 50 for a first down. Rattler attempts to pass again, but the ball is knocked out. The Broncos get on top of it, and it is ruled a fumble recovery after some on-field confusion.
