Is Alvin Kamara playing tonight? Saints running back has quiet first half

The New Orleans Saints have leaned heavily on running back Alvin Kamara over the first six games of the 2024 campaign, and rightly so, he’s one of the best running backs in the NFL.

Kamara has been highly productive, especially in fantasy football. He posted 428 rushing yards, 238 receiving yards and seven total touchdowns over six games, making him one of the best fantasy football options at running back.

However, Kamara got off to an uncharacteristically slow start during the Week 7 game against the Denver Broncos, with the Saints running back tallying just five carries for two yards and three catches for 12 yards in the first half.

Making matters worse, the Saints inexplicably went with an early rotation between Kamara and second-year running back Kendre Miller, who has one carry for eight yards. Adding to that, veteran Jamaal Williams also saw a carry in the first half.

It’s hard to understand this approach. Kamara is an elite player who can impact the game in several ways, and with the Saints missing key offensive weapons like wide receivers Chris Olave and Rashid Shaheed, he’s even more important.

Adding to Kamara’s woes, the Broncos are playing good defense and rookie signal-caller Spencer Rattler hasn’t been able to sustain drives.

Through three quarters, Kamara still has the same stats on the ground as he did to close out the first half but has added two more catches. Unfortunately, Kamara lost one yard with those receptions in what is a microcosm of his disastrous night.

Hopefully things get better for Kamara the rest of the way, but right now it isn’t looking good for fantasy football owners, who were depending on Kamara to have a big week yet again.
