Wide receiver Davante Adams is expected to have a full workload when he makes his debut for the New York Jets on Sunday evening at the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Head coach Jeff Ulbrich revealed the news to reporters on Friday regarding Adams, who missed three games with a hamstring injury before the Las Vegas Raiders granted his trade request and sent him to New York, where he’s reunited with ex-Green Bay Packers teammate Aaron Rodgers.

“We didn’t know what to expect with him coming here,” Ulbrich said Friday, per ESPN’s Rich Cimini. “Obviously he’d been listed on the injury report with the hamstring, so we had to make an assessment once he got here, and he’s looked fantastic.”

The 31-year-old Adams has caught 18 passes for 209 yards and a touchdown in three games this year.

The Jets sure need Adams to play a full workload. New York is 2-4 after a three-game losing streak, and the team is just 23rd in scoring at 18.8 points per game. The Jets enter this weekend as underdogs to the 4-2 Steelers, who are only one of five teams to allow under 100 points so far this season.

As a side note to this, the Jets’ window to compete is now with the 40-year-old Rodgers running the show. He came over via trade from the Packers with incredible fanfare, but he missed all but a few plays of the 2023 season with a torn Achilles.

The optimism returned for 2024, but the Jets have sputtered, to the point where head coach Robert Saleh was fired after a 2-3 start.

Now New York is in grave danger of seeing its season go up in flames. Adams, of course, can help prevent that from happening. He had a great rapport with Rodgers, who won NFL MVP awards in 2020 and 2021 with Adams as the No. 1 wideout. Adams’ final season with Rodgers (2021) resulted in 123 catches for 1,553 yards and 11 touchdowns.

That production could be too tough to match with both players three years older, but Adams could very well help get the Jets going.

The offense, on paper, potentially looks great with skill-position players such as Adams, wide receivers Garrett Wilson and Allen Lazard and running backs Breece Hall and Braelon Allen. We’ll see whether the results match the potential soon enough when Pittsburgh hosts New York on Sunday at 8:20 p.m. ET.
