Watch: Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes’ interception leads to 49ers TD

Does Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes have an interception problem?

Leading the San Francisco 49ers 14-6, it appeared Chiefs rookie wide receiver Xavier Worthy slipped at the end of his route during a 3rd-and-8 at Kansas City’s 31-yard line. As a result, 49ers cornerback Deommodore Lenoir intercepted Mahomes’ pass, returning it for 33 yards.

Subsequently, 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy engineered a seven-play, 23-yard drive, rushing for a one-yard TD.

Through his first five starts this season, Mahomes threw the same amount of interceptions and touchdowns (six). He also posted a career-low 56.8 QBR.

Some of Mahomes’ issues are likely tied to the Chiefs’ wide receiver depth or lack thereof.

WR Rashee Rice — who logged 288 receiving yards in four games — recently underwent knee surgery and is expected to miss the regular season. Fellow wideout Marquise “Hollywood” Brown (shoulder) was recently placed on injured reserve.

Despite the WR problems, Mahomes — a two-time MVP — must take better care of the ball to help the Chiefs win their third straight Super Bowl.
