Lloyd And Ashanti’s “Southside” Is Now Certified Platinum

Twenty years after its release, Lloyd‘s hit duet with Ashanti and debut single scored a new plaque from the RIAA.

Additionally, the album of the same name earned a gold certification while Street Love and “Lay It Down” both become platinum. “You” and “Get It Shawty” are also now inching towards diamond status as they respectively become 4x platinum and 2x platinum.

When speaking of the new feats, Lloyd took to Instagram with a special message. “When I was a kid, I’d have traded any feeling of accomplishment away just for a chance to speak to my dad. I’d often question God’s presence in my life behind closed doors. So many sleepless nights and moments of self doubt along the way. Yet, I know he is smiling down on his only son as the affirmations I’ve received today only prove that everything happens for a reason,” he wrote.

The 38-year-old crooner continued, “I just want to take a moment to say thank you to any and everyone who’s been apart of my journey. From the ones who helped me create it, to the ones who took time to listen, download, and stream it. Thank you for giving me the chance & the patience to find my voice, and thank you for giving me the confidence and the encouragement to walk with a purpose.”

“Feel It,” his collaboration with Jacquees and the late Rich Homie Quan, became certified gold back in May. With it being his seventh RIAA certification of 2024, Lloyd opened up about the significance of that.

“The number 7 in this case representing a full and complete circle. Of ups and downs, good and evil, wins and losses, and most importantly, of life and death. Just want to say how blessed it is to have music that spans generations and still be here to receive and accept the flowers because ultimately, none of this is guaranteed,” Lloyd shared.

The post concluded with the sentiment: “We all start out with a dream but none of us know where it’s gonna lead. Let this be a reminder to everyone that our physical forms may come and go, but our spirits will never die!”
