Commanders named possible trade suitor for $21 million stud wide receiver

The Washington Commanders are greatly exceeding expectations through seven games in 2024. The team’s rebuild has come to a sudden halt due to the excellence of rookie signal caller Jayden Daniels and first-year offensive coordinator Kliff Kingsbury.

Dan Quinn’s squad is 5-2 and atop the NFC East, but still have some glaring weaknesses, especially in the wide receiver room. Outside of Terry McLaurin, Washington lacks high-end talent and production at the position. Adding another viable receiving option to the offense could take the unit to the next level.

With the Commanders needing another playmaker, Fox Sports’ Eric Williams believes Washington could be a potential trade suitor for Cincinnati Bengals star receiver Tee Higgins.

Despite being the WR2 behind Ja’Marr Chase, Higgins has still been incredibly productive over the last few seasons. The former Clemson Tiger has posted two 1,000-yard campaigns since entering the league in 2019 and still had 656 yards in 2023 despite missing five games with a hamstring injury.

Higgins is off to a fantastic start to the 2024 campaign, tallying 29 catches for 341 yards and three touchdowns in five games. The 25-year-old has also posted an 84.3 PFF Grade and has zero drops on 43 targets.

Higgins would be a seamless fit with Commanders as the former second-round pick would form a formidable duo with Terry McLaurin and give Jayden Daniels a versatile deep threat who can make contested catches.

Acquiring Higgins will cost general manager Adam Peters some valuable draft capital, and the impending free agent will also demand a lucrative contract extension.

Washington has a plethora of 2025 draft capital and is projected to boast $123 million in cap space this offseason, per Spotrac. The team has the resources to facilitate a trade with the Bengals and sign Higgins to a long-term deal.

The Commanders must be aggressive over the next few years with Daniels on a rookie contract, and acquiring a dynamic receiver like Tee Higgins would be a blockbuster move from Adam Peters.
