Proposed NFL trade sends former No. 1 overall pick to Buffalo Bills

The NFL trade deadline is less than two weeks away, and the Buffalo Bills have already gotten in on the action by adding five-time Pro Bowl receiver Amari Cooper in a trade with the Cleveland Browns. In his first game with Buffalo, Cooper had four catches and a touchdown. With that in mind, the Bills may not be done. Or at least they shouldn’t be according to Matt Verderame of Sports Illustrated, who says the Bills should call the Panthers about defensive end Jadeveon Clowney.

“Buffalo and Carolina have longstanding ties in their front offices, with Carolina general manager Dan Morgan having worked under Buffalo GM Brandon Beane from 2018 to ’20,” Verderame writes. “Additionally, Beane came to the Bills from the Panthers, where he spent the first 19 years of his career. While Buffalo already added a receiver in Amari Cooper, getting another pass rusher could make sense. Carolina has a good one in Clowney, who at 31 years old is set to be a free agent after this season.”

The Bills still lack a top-tier edge rusher, so if they can’t get one, they may as well stock up on solid mid-tier guys. Adding Clowney to a group comprised of Greg Rousseau, A.J. Epenesa, and Von Miller would give them a deep rotation.
