Many years ago, my girlfriend at the time and I got separated at the farmer’s market. I spent about an hour searching back and forth for her, and I assume she spent a lot of time looking for me, too. Eventually, I became suspicious and went back to the parking lot, only to find her car was gone. I called her at home (this was before cell phones), and she started yelling at me for ditching her at the farmer’s market. I yelled back, “I’m still here! You ditched me!” © capilot / RedditI was on vacation with friends, and I told my girlfriend back home that people kept flashing their melons at us and it was very distracting. She got pissed. When I sent her a picture of the various watermelon stands on the side of the road that I was talking about, she got even more pissed. © KingCabbage / Reddit
My ex used to be chronically late for everything, often by a few hours. So, I started telling her to show up a few hours before the actual event. It worked, and she never caught on—until one day I overshot it. She showed up ’on time,’ which was 3 hours early, fully dressed and in full makeup, ready to have dinner with my mom. She was livid, and I thought it was hilarious. We both learned a lesson that day. © Abigboi_ / RedditMy ex usually dressed conservatively. We were invited to a party, and I hadn’t seen her dress until we were getting ready to leave. She came out of the bedroom, and I said, “Wow, you look stunning.” She spun around, marched back to the room, and locked herself inside. It turned out that, in her mind, my comment translated to, “I wish I was dating a slut.” The dress was much more revealing than what she typically wore. Apparently, she thought it looked slutty and wanted to ask me about it to test my reaction. We ended up not going to the party at all and spent the night talking through the bedroom door. © Jelopuddinpop / Reddit
My wife has packed our luggage three times and keeps losing the things she needs, getting increasingly frustrated when she can’t find them. I step in, move everything around, and find her shorts, glasses, sweater, etc., but then she gets angry at me for messing up her ’system.’ Since it’s her time of the month, I mostly just nod and apologize. © RonIsIZe_13 / RedditIt was bedtime. I was on the bed, and my girlfriend was in the bathroom, getting ready for bed. I was deep in thought and barely noticed when she got on the bed, snuck under my arm, and rested her head on my chest. We stayed like that in silence for a few minutes. She started playing with my chest hair, and on reflex, I kissed the top of her head. Suddenly, in a very girly tone, she asked, “What are you thinking?” Still, deep in thought, I answered honestly, “I hope I have a good poop before the gym tomorrow morning. I hate working out with a full load.” I kid you not—she started sobbing. Through her tears, she said, “When we first started dating, you were so lovey-dovey, and now you think about pooping!”
She wailed even louder. It took a while to calm her down. © h********* / Reddit
When my wife and I were still dating, we took a trip to New Orleans. After a day of walking around and eating street food, she had an upset stomach that hit right as we were getting ready to go out for dinner. We ended up skipping dinner and staying in. I found a pharmacy near our hotel, but it was in a sketchy area. She didn’t want me to go out alone at night, but I wanted to get her something to help her stomach. The conversation ended with me saying, ’You’re too sick to physically stop me from going, so I’m just going. I’ll be back.’I got her the medicine, and within an hour or so, she started feeling better but was still mad at me. Her position was that she couldn’t just walk out there by herself—it wasn’t safe for her, and it wasn’t something she could treat lightly. She wanted me to acknowledge that. I argued, ’What’s the point of having male privilege if you can’t use it to go out at night through a rough neighborhood and get your girlfriend medicine?’
She eventually conceded it was a nice thing to do for her. © HavingALittleFit / Reddit
My ex and I used to go on road trips now and then. This happened when we were planning a trip for the following weekend. She mentioned that driving for four hours on our last road trip had caused her a headache, so I offered to drive most of the way on the next trip. She got mad at me, claiming that I didn’t think she was capable and that I was just trying to disrespect her to get a reaction. She was upset with me for two days over this. © ASunnyDay** / Reddit
My girlfriend came over and told me she had started doing one of those milkshake diet things. I hadn’t bought anything for dinner, so I secretly ordered a garlic chili chicken calzone. When it arrived and I started eating it, she was fuming that I would do that in front of her while she was on a diet, so she went upstairs. © TheWackoMagician / RedditI was horrendously sick on her birthday, but we had already booked a trip to stay in London for a few days. We went to a West End musical, nice restaurants, etc. One day, after walking around and exploring Camden all day, I practically collapsed on the bed. She went to the bathroom, and I fell asleep almost immediately without even realizing it. She left me to sleep for about 4 hours, effectively wasting the evening, but she did not attempt to wake me during that time. Instead, she crept around, put on headphones, and then got mad at me when I woke up, saying I ruined her birthday by sleeping all day—as if I was supposed to have some internal alarm clock or something. I was so confused about how she could make an effort to let me sleep but still be mad at me for sleeping that long. It made no sense. © SmashingTeaCups / RedditIn this compilation, we share 11 cute and ironic comics that illustrate how relationships change over time.
