A Big Little Look Back at Zoë Kravitz and Channing Tatum’s Love Story
Channing Tatum and Zoë Kravitz Split After 3 Years Together
The magic appears to have worn off for Channing Tatum and Zoë Kravitz.
A year after the ring he put on her finger made its public debut at Kendall Jenner’s Halloween party, where the betrothed duo went as Rosemary and her baby, Tatum and Kravitz have ended their engagement, according to multiple outlets.
And it’s been less than three months since the release of Blink Twice, the darkly comedic horror film Kravitz directed Tatum in several years ago before it began its long, circuitous path into theaters—and they embarked on a romance.
Doing press for the movie, the pair sounded as enamored with each other as ever, Tatum telling E! News in July he had found “a lifetime partner [for] a lifetime creative journey.”
Kravitz, meanwhile, told E! in August, “It was a joy to work with him and I think art is the deepest expression of love, so being able to do that with my partner was amazing.”
She added, “Making art is our love language. We hope to continue doing it.”
In fact, both actors plan to be in the alien invasion comedy Alpha Gang, according to casting news announced just hours earlier on Oct. 29. And they were most recently spotted together in Brooklyn catching an Oct. 6 performance of a play directed by Blink Twice actor Levon Hawke.
So maybe, for these two, there’s art after breakup. It’s certainly what brought them together in the first place.

Making Blink Twice “made us really feel like we’re very connected on what we love about life, what we love about just things in general about being alive,” Tatum told E!. And even more uncanny was that Kravitz made making a movie, which tends to be hard, very easy for him.
He added, “One thing I will say is, if you think you’re in love with somebody and you’re thinking about, ‘Do I want to stay with them forever or be with them or have a child with them or get married?,’ go find the hardest possible project that you can physically find. Go build a house, paint a room, do something.”
But while intense circumstances can result in some temporarily intense feelings, their bond endured in post-production.
“He makes me laugh and we both really love art and talking about art and the exploration of why we do what we do,” the Big Little Lies actress told GQ in 2022, calling Tatum “a wonderful human.” She noted that they both loved “to watch a film and break it down and talk about it and challenge each other.”
The first movie they ever sat down and watched together? True Romance.
They originally met close to six years ago after he read an early draft of Blink Twice, back when it was called Pussy Island. Mutual friend Riley Keough had put them in touch.
“Literally, after that meeting, my life went how it did and we lost touch,” Tatum, whose marriage to Jenna Dewan ended in 2018, told Vanity Fair for its February 2023 issue. “Then, cut to two and a half years later, they had a new draft, and it was great. I was like, ‘Wow. You are really saying something.’ That’s the kind of person you want to create with.'”
So Tatum signed up for the role of sinister tech billionaire Slater King, and he immediately had Kravitz’s back on set.
“Whether it was making me tea or pouring me a drink or going to whip someone into shape or whatever—he really was my protector and it was really wonderful and sweet,” she told GQ. “I think if you can do something like that together, it’s a good test. And we came out even stronger.”
Tatum called his then-girlfriend “a perfectionist in the best possible way,” telling Variety he advised Kravitz that she would “need double the days” if she also acted in her film. (She ultimately stayed behind the camera, but Tatum spoke from experience, having starred in his directorial debut, the 2022 sleeper hit Dog.)
And then he offered up emerald-cut evidence that the self-described “bit of a monogamist” had pushed past his previous uncertainty about whether he’d get married again.
“In business, I have no real fear of anything being destroyed,” Tatum, whose divorce from Dewan was just finalized in September, told Vanity Fair. “But heart things, when it comes to people I love, I have a really hard time. I end up trying too hard, you know?”
He was working on going from having “no chill,” the 44-year-old said, to being able to “actually experience these moments, instead of just trying to change it or something.”
Meanwhile, Kravitz was busy figuring out what she really wanted, having filed for divorce from Karl Glusman in 2021 after 18 months of marriage.
She recalled thinking at the time, “Maybe I don’t want the thing that I’m supposed to want, a marriage, children, any of it. I don’t know if I want that at all.” It was an “uncomfortable question,” she told GQ, “especially for a woman to ask herself.”
Kravitz and Tatum’s respective stories seemed to take the same turn—toward each other.
“I think life has a really fun way to give you exactly what you need when you need it,” Tatum told VF. “Not meaning gifts, or anything like that. But what you need to learn.”
Which ultimately is what happened, just not in the way he meant it at the time.
