Dalvin Tomlinson (30), DT, Browns (6’3, 325). Tomlinson is a player the Eagles know well, as they have faced him 10 times over his eight-year NFL career with the Giants, Vikings, and Browns. He is a very durable player, as he has only missed five games due to injury over his career. He has played in 119 NFL games, all as a starter. With the Browns in 2024, Tomlinson has played 276 snaps so far, or 34.5 per game. He has 12 tackles, 1.5 sacks, and 4 QB hits. […] Tomlinson could provide a veteran presence among all of the Eagles’ young linemen, further bolster their depth, and serve as another proven run stopper. Estimated cost: Tomlinson would be cheap financially, as he has a small base salary in 2024, and manageable costs in 2025 and 2026 if the Eagles wanted to hang onto him longer than just this season. My guess is that he would cost something like a fourth- or fifth-round pick.

What is the most interesting team heading into the deadline? – ESPN+
Fowler: The Eagles are always a threat to make moves at the deadline, but they have no obvious needs. Left tackle Jordan Mailata will return soon. The youth experiment on defense is going well with pass rusher Nolan Smith Jr. and corners Quinyon Mitchell and Cooper DeJean. Would GM Howie Roseman take a shot at a star, such as Cardinals safety Budda Baker?

No need for a big splash trade for the Eagles this time around – BGN
Roseman has made a number of trade deadline moves over the last few years, very few of which have had any real impact on the team. Last year he traded for Kevin Byard, who played a lot and, at the same time, played poorly. Not a great combination. In 2022 he dealt for defensive end Robert Quinn, who had absolutely nothing left in the tank despite the fanfare. In ‘17, he struck gold with Jay Ajayi, but the 2019 Golden Tate deal, despite the game-winning touchdown catch against the Bears in the wild card game, was less-than-impactful, and the Genard Avery deal was a bust. It’s difficult for players to acclimate from one team to another in the middle of an NFL season, especially on offense. Unless that players is already familiar with the offensive coaching staff’s play calling language and tendencies, it takes too much time for a receiver to get up to speed to be effective. And usually, defensive players dealt at the deadline don’t have much left in the tank. In short, as defensive coordinator Vic Fangio said on Tuesday, mid-season trade acquisitions rarely have an impact.

Good D – Iggles Blitz
The pass rush has come alive. Nolan Smith is flying off the edge and has gotten to the QB for three straight games. Josh Sweat is getting regular pressure and QB hits. The DL is making their impact felt. Nakobe Dean has played well the past two weeks. Fangio is letting him play more downhill and it is working well. Dean got to blitz several times in Cincy and got good pressure. He blew up the RG a couple of times. Quinyon Mitchell and Darius Slay are covering well, which syncs up nicely with the pass rush being more effective. If the QB has to hold the ball an extra second, the rushers have time to get there. If the rushers get quick pressure, the CBs don’t have to cover as long. What a lovely symbiotic world of happiness and teamwork. The defense came up with 2 takeaways and a 4th down stop against the Bengals. Those were game-changing plays. If Fangio’s guys can do more of that, the rest of the season will be a lot more fun. This defense features a lot of young players and new guys. They can still get better, individually and as a group. There is a lot of potential here. I’m excited to see if Fangio can get them to continue to play at a high level. This just feels worlds different than 2023.

The Eagles have been waiting a long time for this Jalen Hurts to show up. Efficient Jalen. Aggressive Jalen. Accurate Jalen. Mistake-free Jalen. Yes, 2022 Jalen. Hurts put together his finest performance in quite a while Sunday as the Eagles won their third straight game to improve to 5-2. Hurts hit on 80 percent of his passes on 16-for-20 for 236 yards with a long touchdown pass to DeVonta Smith and once again no turnovers. This was the first game of his career where he completed 80 percent of his passes with at least one TD pass and no interceptions. In three wins since the bye week, Hurts has completed 71 percent of his passes (42-for-59) for 614 yards with four TDs, no interceptions and a 127.4 passer rating. And five rushing touchdowns. Before the bye week, Hurts only had five games in his career with a passer rating of 127 or higher. Now he’s averaged that over a three-game span.

10) Those who held onto their Vic Fangio stock have enjoyed the post-bye bull run from Philadelphia’s defense. It’s three games, but the Eagles have corralled the Browns, Giants and Bengals with increasing effectiveness. The Bengals started strong on Sunday, but Fangio’s defense made two game-changing plays in the second half: Cooper DeJean’s fourth-down stop of Ja’Marr Chase and C.J. Gardner-Johnson’s Isaiah Rodgers-assisted pick. Those clutch efforts helped put the game out of reach. The Eagles’ offense also took a while to get going, but that’s nothing new; the first-quarter scoreless streak improbably has reached seven games now. Ultimately, though, Jalen Hurts had one of his cleanest games, and all the big-play weapons who were healthy shared the offensive load. When the Eagles play this type of three-phase football, they’re tough to beat.

Things are looking up in the City of Brotherly Love, and the Eagles offense is seventh in EPA per play (0.066).

Week 9 defense streamers. Philadelphia Eagles D/ST vs. JAX. The Philadelphia Eagles have been a better defense than they’ve been given credit for this season, earning the fourth-highest overall defense grade from PFF through the first eight weeks of the season at 77.5 — a top-10 unit in terms of average yards per play (5.1), first downs allowed (117) and successful play percentage allowed this year per PFF. This week, the Eagles are going up against an injured Jacksonville Jaguars’ offense that just lost WR Christian Kirk for the season, while star rookie Brian Thomas Jr. is considered “day-to-day” with a chest injury. They traded away starting left tackle Cam Robinson, who’s spent the entirety of his eight-year career in Jacksonville manning the left side of the line (when healthy). This is a team that has struggled with consistency throughout the season, with newly-paid QB Trevor Lawrence having had a few stunts in his growth along the line, despite some exciting prospects in a talented receiving corps.

The play that changed the game in Bengals vs. Eagles – Cincy Jungle
This game swung on one play. Fourth and one. Some would argue that the game swung on the missed field goal. True, it did lead to the Eagles scoring at the end of the first half and the beginning of the second half, but the Cincinnati Bengals offense got in the end zone immediately after that. However, it was a different story after the Bengals failed to convert on fourth and one from their own territory. The defense gave up a field goal immediately after the failed conversion, despite holding the Philadelphia Eagles to six yards. They gave up a touchdown on the following drive and a field goal on a short field on the drive after that.

Washington is now 6-2, and they still have sole possession of first place in the NFC East. FanDuel had them at 6 1⁄2 wins before the season started, and that over could hit on Sunday against the New York Giants. Washington is still not the favorite in the division, despite having one more win(and game played), than Philadelphia. The Eagles look like the Commanders only competition for the NFC East division title, and the two teams won’t meet until a Week 11 Thursday Night Football game in Philly.

The Dallas Cowboys lost to the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday night. In a vacuum, that’s not all that disappointing. The 49ers are a good team, they were playing in front of their home crowd, and they’ve had the Cowboys number over the last few seasons. But this game wasn’t just another battle with a tough NFC opponent. The 49ers came in banged up missing several key players. The Cowboys are hurting too, but most of their injuries are on the defensive side of the ball. There is no reason for the Cowboys offense to have issues unless they are just not very good. And considering the team is coming off a bye where adjustments were supposed to be made, it brings about a different level of disappointment to see them struggle so badly. Whenever the Cowboys are outmatched, they don’t just get beat, they get taken out of the game. In all four losses this season, the Cowboys have trailed by at least 17 points at some point in the game. Sure, sometimes they string together some fourth-quarter garbage points to dress up the final score, but at times this year, this team hasn’t shown up to play.

After falling to Washington 21-18 in Week 2, the Giants aim to reverse their season’s course in Week 9. The Giants lost that Week 2 game despite scoring three touchdowns and not giving up any. The Giants are 0-4 at MetLife Stadium this season. For betting purposes, New York is 3-5 against the spread and hasn’t covered in its last two outings.
